Hey gang,

Just checking this F-14 bird out this morning for the first time. As with any DCS module I have a lot to learn I am sure.

I can fly the take off instant action mission , and the wing sweep automatically adjusts itself. It is set for takeoff, and in flight it adjust according to speed I guess. And then on landing does the same.

Now if I choose the Cold Start Instant Action mission, it does not seem to do this. Wings start and stay fully swept back. And manually trying to adjust the sweep with my HOTAS hat I have assigned does not seem to do anything either. I also have auto sweep assigned to a button and that does not seem to do anything.

What may I be missing?

Make sure to press the master clear button just above the sweep handle to let any changes you've made take effect.

Or another thing I can think of is double checking your control binding as there has been a bug with binding controls.

Thanks, have already double and triple checked the bindings, will check out the master clear button and let ya know.

Sounds like you are missing a step in the start up procedure.

My advice would be to work your way through the cold start training mission, then try a jester assisted start up until you get your head around what's going on with the jet. Then you can work out your own shortcuts to the procedure once it starts to become second nature.

The sweep lever (yellow) also has a z axis movement. If you click it it will go in and out not just fore and aft. Sweep it forward and push it in (z axis) and press the master reset (white button)

Hey dburne,

Once you get settled in, I'm also interested in your gfx settings for the Tomcat since we have similar specs. Mirrors on is dropping my fps.

Well it was not clearing the Master, for some reason just does not seem to work in the cold start mission. ( I am using auto-start).

I used the emergency handle to set full forward for take off.

How did you resolve the problem? For me, even ‘instant action’ in a hot seat will not let me bind Wing Sweep keys to my TM Warthog HOTAS. I’ve tried everything, I cannot set Forward/AFT/AUTO/BOMB at all. HeatBlur kindly set the default mapping to the Warthog which is the throttle mic switch and they won’t work either.

In reference to the MASTER RESET, must you engage it even in a hot cockpit?

Well I can only comment on starting from cold and dark. My wingsweep worked ok for me when starting on the runway with engines running, at least auto mode.

The step I was missing was moving the wing sweep lever fully forward and pushing down to lock into position. Then hitting the Master Caution Clear button. The automatic start on the cold start did not do that step.

However whilst I could control the sweep manually with my HOTAS buttons I had assigned, setting it to Auto with the HOTAS button did not at least seem to work for me, only manual. Need more time with it though really.

Had this posted in another thread but hoping someone can spot a problem with my startup resulting in some unexpected issues with the wing sweep...

I am setting the sweep lever fully forward, pushing down, closing cover and hitting the reset but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to take. Any ideas?

Wing sweep portion is about 2:15. :joystick:

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you already know but you don't need to visually check your wings sweep position, just check the Wing Sweep Indicator to the right of the Master Arm Switch

I don't want to check it, I want to _set_ it with a slide control on my HOTAS. At the moment, the only way seems to be to drag the emergency lever into correct position with the mouse.

Why do you wan't to use the emergency handle and not a button on the throttle as per the real aircraft?

You should Add 4 buttons to your throttle.

Wing sweep forward, wing sweep aft and wing sweep auto and wing sweep manual. You control the wing sweep with those 4 buttons.

Also you don’t need to put the emergency handle fully forward. Just set it halfway then the handle will follow your wingsweep also. So you can look at that also to see that the wings is moving.
