sze5003 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I just use a soft cloth that came with my CV1 on my Odyssey. It's been fine like that for a year. No need to use special cleaning wipes. kega76 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I've only just realised that there is a pretty significant difference between running WMR direct from Windows versus running WMR for SteamVR. WMR for SteamVR doesn't open up that quite frankly annoying room which then takes up a load of resources. Overall it's much more stable and efficient, and has made DCS run a lot more stable. What do you mean? How do you go about to launch a session in DCS? Is it the Windows cliff house that’s annoying?
sohei Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 What do you mean? How do you go about to launch a session in DCS? Is it the Windows cliff house that’s annoying? It's more that it seems to suck up a lot of resources and gives me lots of issues with stability. I've been tinkering a LOT with SteamVR because it was crashing constantly when in DCS. The biggest fix I've identified is to find the WMR for SteamVR app in your Steam library and run it from there. It then just puts you in a fairly bare space, no room. And then launch DCS normally. It runs much better now. And yes, the cliff house is pretty annoying to be honest. It just seems quite buggy and badly planned and all in all a bit of a waste of time. A small pie is soon eaten

Obviously you need steam vr installed and wmr app but all I do is put my headset on, my desktop appears in the headset, I click my dcs shortcut on my desktop through my Odyssey headset. Everything launches no issues. You can display your desktop inside your headset by hitting Windows key then selecting apps, and desktop. It was working ok at first for me but in the last week it just keeps falling off a cliff for reasons I can't figure out right now. Opening it via SteamVR makes it much more stable. Clearly it's unpredictable at least. I'm glad its working well for you. A small pie is soon eaten
Secoda Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) HP had some of these technical bulletins out there pretty quickly. You cannot run any kind of hub or USB extension with the headset. Because of the high data rate it is pretty unforgiving. I can't say I have any real problem with my Reverb unless I cause it myself by wiggling the USB plug. HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Display Issues if Minimum System Requirements Not Met The HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset may exhibit various issues including: The headset display is blank (black). The video refresh rate is much lower than the expected 90hz (video may flicker). https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06318083 If you encounter performance issues with your HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset, please check the following: Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements: Processor: Intel core i5 6th Gen CPU (or better) or AMD FX-4350 4.2Ghz (or better) Graphics solution: NVIDIA GTX 1080 (or better) Memory: 8GB DDR RAM Available Storage: 10 GB USB port: 1 USB 3.0 Video port: 1 DisplayPort version 1.3 Make sure your headset is connected directly to a USB 3.0 port and to a DisplayPort (not using adapters, docks, or converters). kega76 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 Yeah, I don’t get it. I usually open wmr and have it st to pause (=no picture), it automatically opens steam vr, I then open DCS. I can also open DCS directly and it will start the others. I haven’t noticed any difference in performance, although I haven’t done a scientific study on the matter. Would there be a better option you say? Like a hidden file somewhere that does magic?
Secoda Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I tried a bunch of stuff in opening order and somehow one time got SteamVR set at 60Hz instead of 90Hz even though WMR still said 90Hz. I never touched a setting. I rebooted and all was fine. Some have issues with the mouse leaving the game window in DCS but there is a setting for that. Yeah, I don’t get it. ShaDowz Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Didn't really have time to read through the whole thread but i'm sure there's more people than me that is having problems with the headset blacking out from time to time? Sometime i can play for hours without any problems but once it starts blacking out it happens a lot! I've seen people strapping the cable connector to the headset but i don't think that's the problem with my headset, can't seem to get the headset to black out when im messing around with the cabel. Anyone know the reason for this issue? And my usb is plugged straight into the Usb on my computer, no hubs.
Secoda Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Read the last ten pages or so of the thread. Blacking out is discussed and flickering. I would call HP and setup a support case. HP did issue a technical bulletin on it and when it might occur. eaglecash867 Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 I won't disagree with DP being a limiting choice, but would you be willing to try it without any extensions and let us know if your problems are reduced? That's all laid out in detail in that post that started this convo, including my saying that its limited to 6 feet. :smilewink: It works just fine with no extensions...I'm just not thrilled about DP being the future, since its so unforgiving. The Reverb isn't as good as the CV1 for watching 3D movies anyway (my primary reason for wanting the ability to use an extension). The higher resolution turns a high bit-rate video into a slide show. Reverb is MUCH better than the CV1 for DCS though, which is the main reason I wanted a Reverb. In the first Red Flag Campaign mission, I not only was surprised to see that I wasn't flying in formation with just two other aircraft, but a bunch more, and I could actually tell that those other aircraft were all A-10s. Couldn't do that with the CV1. If you don't want to read then complain and return Reverb to HP and bitching about as others do.

I realize this is for all WMR headsets and not just the Reverb. It's quite simple to be honest : 1. Open Steam 2. Open WMR for SteamVR from within Steam. 3. Don headset and you should be a fairly blank environment. 4. Launch DCS. That is definitely a better experience in terms of stability than when running WMR directly from the desktop. eaglecash867 Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Since I had gotten so used to the way my Rift worked, out of habit, one day I just double-clicked my DCS icon on the desktop and then pulled the Reverb on. Right as I thought "Oh yeah, it doesn't work like that for WMR headsets", it automatically went to the WMR portal, then a black screen with a circular explosion of white triangles, then SteamVR opened and DCS loaded. Secoda Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) Something is missing between Steps 3 and 4. The only way I have launched DCS from the SteamVR room is by hitting CTRL and Esc bringing up the WMR control panel and clicking the Home symbol at the bottom which launches the cliff house and desktop. Then I launch DCS. You must be launching DCS direct in the SteamVR room if your headset is on? How? It's quite simple to be honest : 1. Open Steam 2. Open WMR for SteamVR from within Steam. 3. Don headset and you should be a fairly blank environment. 4. Launch DCS. That is definitely a better experience in terms of stability than when running WMR directly from the desktop.
