tflash Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 He guys, I'm considering a next "upgrade". What should be my next priority: a HOTAS stick (Cougar or Saitek) or pedals? Currently, I have Saitek Evo Force and TrackIr. I'm quite satisfied with the Evo Force (except for some calibration issues), and I wonder if a HOTAS stick would be a huge improvement? Maybe the on-stick throttle cannot match flying a Hotas? I don't know. If you think an Evo Force is good enough I might as well buy some pedals. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Vekkinho Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I have 'em both... I purchased my Cougar a year and a half ago, then I bought Saitek Pro Flight Rudders few months later. I still believe that HOTAS is a main controller for decent manuevering and targeting and rudders are used for manuevering only. So go HOTAS first! When You adjust it to your likings (Develop profiles and learn to use it) buy Rudders for new level in Aircombat! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ManDay Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 What do you use pedals for in a plane? Twistable joysticks?
britgliderpilot Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 HOTAS. Having all those buttons, switches, and hats at your fingertips makes flying so much easier it's untrue . . . A HOTAS will be pretty much essential for Black Shark, too. Just make sure it's got yaw control on it . . . . X52 Pro is probably the stick of the moment. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
TorwaK Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I've x52 Pro and Pro Rudder Flight Pedals... I'm quite happy with them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel Core i7-6700K, @5GHz | Asus Maximus Hero VIII | 2 x eVGA GTX 970 SLI | Kingston Predator 16GB DDR4-3000Mhz | 2 x Samsung 850 PRO 240GB RAID-0 | AOC G2460PG G-SYNC LCD | OCULUS RIFT CV1 VR | THRUSTMASTER HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO PEDALS
FA_Crazy-Canuck Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 My 2 Cents, if you are looking to prioritize, I would strongly suggest HOTAS stick first. I use both pedals and HOTAS but I find rudder pedals not nearly as useful in this game as in IL2. However its all about immersion eventually you will want both. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Slaunyeh Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Hotas then pedals thats true for any modern plan sim. Cougar is good but pots are weak after a time you`ll want to upgrade. It`s usually not cheap but it seems to be lifelike... Can`t say about any other controler don`t own them But i would like a counsel too what pedals are good & confortable to use with Cougar i got non usb ch pro pedals but they are too close and not very practical, nor confortable.
S77th-konkussion Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Get both- but the HOTAS is more important if you must choose only one for now. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
S77th-konkussion Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 What do you use pedals for in a plane? Yes- a more realistic way to control rudder-the YAW axis. Also for toe brakes & ground steering. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]

The Cougar pots aren't weak... they're actually high end pots.. The reason why they spike occasionally is because of the way that they're mounted into the stick base... but this is very easily addressed when spiking occurs by removing the pot from the mount and spraying some contact cleaner directly into the pot to flush out the the residue... or you can go for the Hall sensor kit like I did .. As far as the best rudders for Cougar compatibility why its the Simped system of course... http://home.arcor.de/p.madel/Homepage/homeeng.htm ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR

I'd recommend a HOTAS for a sim like this, a lot less reaching for the keyboard as you'll have a lot more buttons at your disposal. Though IMO I'd steer clear of the Cougar, it was without doubt the worst HOTAS I ever bought.
tflash Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 HOTAS it will be, then; which one I've yet to decide! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I had to transform my non usb CH pro to toe brakes, but its not confortable, and they´re quite used now. Any link to where i can buy them ? well, its common knowledge that Cougar pots are crap. In 3 years i already had to commend them 1 time, and right now i got so much spikes on Y no game is playable, Z axis is already needing retirement. I´m also tired to get my hard dismantled just to try to clean them, lasts times, to no avail. Weren ´t they weak, there wouldn´t be SO much mods upgrading Cougars HOTAS by flusing original pots like you did. weren´t they bad, people would have found a way to protect them, aquite cheaper solution than Hall sensor that i am willing to buy, as long i got spare cash for thoses.
