Navy takeoff rules for F-14's with GE F110 engines...

I believe that US Navy F-14's with GE F110 engines were not allowed to use AB during land based departures until wheels were off the ground. This might be true for carrier launches also...TF30 engined F-14's did not have this restriction.

I hear on the Fighter Pilot Podcast's recent F-14 episode (highly recommended) that if they went to full burner on the cat it would damage the landing gear. MIL power only, which is plenty with the F110s.

Ristriced for catapult launch, release the wheel break then light the AB on land airfield as of the HN and other jets.

Limitation is based on controllability concerns in the event of an engine failure during takeoff.

As I read from the NATOPS's manual, dual engine AB takeoff are prohibited, from shore and from carrier as well. However, AI Tomcats always lauch from carrier in full AB (did not check from land based TOs). I do not know if it should be corrected.

AI Tomcats are A models, no limitations on them.

Err what about people using the Heatblur F-14 with AI?

Exactly.. that's what I mean.. My wingman took off his B with AB.. and another flight of 2xF14B I created to take off right before us, did the same..

Well, I don’t think there’s really any other choice than to court martial them.

The AI isn't able to operate the Harrier, so I wouldn't expect "correct" AB usage from them anyway. Just that aside, they use AB everytime they need more thrust to catch up unless completely restricted in the ME.

Well, it's capable of doing it. I wouldn't want to restrict it just because it's a Navy rule...It's up to the player if they want to follow Navy rules about it...BTW, I tried to simulate an afterburner takeoff with an engine failure on takeoff. I ran off the runway and couldn't control it. It is uncontrollable in single engine AB...

I wonder if "restrict afterburner use" in the advanced waypoint settings works on takeoff for AI? I often use it when setting up AI for formation practice because they seem to take the Ace Combat approach to flying: Max throttle or Zero throttle with nothing between.

Depends upon who is watching...

So I remember when I was a young ADAN in the Line at 106 in 2006 (prior to the Sunset). Our fuel pits where right next to 32L, which were sometimes used as the active runway (as you may know). Aside from our lowly Hornet departures (which looked pretty cool from where I stood at our Home Depot-bought fuel shack), there were moments where a pair of [VF-]31 Tomcats taxi'd right by us and departed from 32L... with cans lit. It was even better in the rare occasion when the active runway was 14R and Tomcat's flew right by our shack. :D
