custom skins will also make problems in online - imagine if every one in 5x5 combat will have they own 512x512 skin, so server will have to send 9 other skins to everyone - it's a lot of traffic!

also, it would be possible to cheat with online skins - make your own skin transparrent and your enemy will never see you in dogfight, unless padlock is enabled on server.

There's no need for'em to allow skin transfers (in fact hey shouldn't)

But it would be nice if a skin could be instaled and given a numerical ID, then anyone who didn't have this skin would see a 'default' skin on that aircraft, while everyone who did download it would see it as it is.

Eg: The 44th picks the number '44' for their skin slot ;) ... so then, anyone who wants the 44th skin to be visible to them downloads and installs it as #44.

Yeah customised skins is cool, I'm sure with broadband it wouldn't take too long to download a new skin every so often. Its true about the transparent skin, I've seen that done on quake! But then whoevers running the server can boot them off or you could switch the skin off and it would show up as a default skin. Imagine a Flanker the size of a bumble bee on gunzo....lol But the positve is much better individual aircraft squadron skins, name plates, custom roundels eg other countries etc. No real limits and it doesn't effect anything, all we need is a folder to put them in thats separate from where the current skins go!

just an idea

Each skin can be 12MB. If you are running a server and there are 11 players in, you're sending 120MB of data. If each of those players has a 12MB skin ... you get the idea, right? You'll be downlaoding for longer than the server can run without crashing ;)

So downloading via the game server isn't a good idea. DLing from a separate site is fine.

Yeah, separate site with the option to use in game if you have a really fast connection. I used to find at first you would have quite a few skins to dl. But then after that it would be just 1, or 2 every now and then. That was with quake and halflife. I still think its a cool idea!

SO exciting to see the ED continueing development of their great sim.

just watched the follwing videos

they speak volumes really.

Great to see our coach, Mr shepski involved in 1.1

I built a new hig-end rig last month and am back into Lomac trying to remember my stick profiles hehe. 1.02 just looks great and flys well on my machine so far.

Incredible to hear about the new Helo down the road as well.

You guys can count on my business, whatever path you follow.

The one suggestion I have for the long term is this, and I'm sure it is no surprise:

I love the Russian aircraft, always have. But there are so many guys out their dying for a US AC to compete. This is a big deal for US future sales. So I very respectfully suggest that ED looks hard at various US AC, models etc and pick one that will be VERY competitive online with the Rus AC. Sure, in good hands the current F-15 is a threat online, but unless things have really changed, the SUs and Migs are just easier and more effective. Maybe that AC is some version of the F-18, I don't know. But such a path will pay for itself in bringing many new people to the sim. I'm not saying INSTEAD of russian AC like the T. It looks just awesome. But in the long run.

Also please do your best to enhance online play and features. This is a real biggy for sales also.

The very best to the whole team,

a very devoted fan of ED,

PS It's great to have an english room THANK YOU!!

can't wait for 1.1

Request for the devs:

I noticed in bug fixes that you guys increased the flares/chaff on the Su-27 (or fixed the counter?...) anyway, it would be nice to get double the flares those aircraft have right now, in the F-15 and Su-27.

Also, since you guys fixed the AoA and G readouts on Russian jets, could you fix'em on the F-15HUD and the F-15's flap indicator? Pretty please? :D

... And maybe sometime in the future give us some indicator for autopilot mode and landing/formation/nav light status.

Any updates on the Dedicated Server App. This would be one of the most important upgrade you guys can ever do to this game and it would be awesome to see it come out in version 1.1. More people would be intersted in purchasing and playing this game if bigger and better servers where hosting this game. My squad has a monster Dedicated Server and we would love to host this game but we can't get it to host remotely on our Dedicated Server. With a Server App this game would host much more efficiently and I would imagine that crashes would occur less. We would also be able to create and host larger missions and even hold more players online at the same time. Plz let us know if any progrees has occured with the Dedicated server App and if you need anyone to test the app let me know an we can host it off our server.

Drako_MDx,

from what we've been told the dedicated server is not a current development, but rather a possibility for the future. It will not be released with the 1.1 addon.

Since the Su-25T will have a bunch of new commands. Could we get a list now? I like to make a new map for each plane on my CH setup. It would gives us a jump on having a map ready when 1.1 is released. :D

Re: Wire the Money

That may seem like alot until you figure out that a bottle of water costs 30rb... Beer costs 600 rb... ect.

LOL, those prices are not real, actually. depending on bottle size and beer brand, it would cost you from 15rb to 100rb :D

I find my self patriotic towards my land in the US at times but i gota say that who ever doesnt know needs to know the cold war is over. I dont give a rats ass if some american plane isnt in this game and no one else should either. I am sure the devs are doing all they can to afford an opertunity to make this the best game they can within means while taking advantage of everything they can. If that m eans no more american flyables for next two years who cares I dont? I would rather they wait do what they can and when the american military askes them to start doing things for them and supporting ED then things will be seen.

Do you think thats some crazy thing that couldnt happen? Well I can assure you that the american military has worked with UBI and redstorm in the creation of rouge spear titles and ghost recon. It was wide spread news that the military was useing rouge spear black thorn and other rougespear chapters as mandatory training lessons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I really didnt mean to quote that other guy and reply directly you him at all. I thought id just take this opertunity to give my opinion and more optimisum.

That's debatable! Give me the F-15 BVR any day! CAC is a different matter however.

Jaws, on the Chaff/flare issue, US aircraft carry their decoys in 'bins' so you can load up on different amounts of chaff and flares. The usual numbers are well above 30 for both, so you could easily see 128/64 for example.

Cool, fair enough. Well then perhaps put the devs could give us the option to alter the amount of chaff and flares we carry. Would this be possible in a future add on?

12MB for a skin?

how about peer to peer downloading rather than through the server? with client side switches to allow you to toggle downloading on and off and uploading on and off? and default skins used until you've gotten the whole skin? all at a max rate specified by the user.

no hit on the server host, and everyone has a choice, and all bandwidth usage is controlled.

being able to use customized skins is a desirable thing. instead of looking for reasons not to have it, how about being positive and thinking of ways to overcome the obstacles so it's possible.

edit - this comment isn't aimed at you tharos - just a general comment on being positive.

You could download just a url pointing to a skin and the game could download it from there instead of from the server or clients. Upon completion, the ingame model would be automatically updated with the new skin.

You could have a couple of user configurable variables to control the bandwidth impact on their game session :

bool allow_skin_download

bool allow_skin_upload

skin_download_rate

skin_upload_rate

Avaritia bona est.

Not really... just waiting until this thing is out the door and in your hands. :)

Newest new feature has already been mentioned... placing objects on buildings.

Not to be a total nitpicker, Shepski, but what are the chances of seeing the F-15C intake ramp bug fixed? You know, the one where the player's intake ramps stay all the way open no matter what, but the AI F-15's ramps will vary their position more realistically? I know in the great scheme of things this is very minor and trivial, but as a huge Eagle fan, I like to admire how pretty my jet is in the F2 view a lot, and seeing that intake stuck full open all the time is driving me batty!

Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask...

Cheers,

Ooops... just noticed that this thread is 14 pages long. Read your last post Shepski, and I'm guessing there's no hope of seeing the F-15 intake fixed this patch. Can I put it at the top of the list for any future patches?

Pretty please? :)

Uhm, at 'the top' of future patch fixes are things like missile sensor modelling, possibly missile ballistics, and the Ka-50 tops all of -that-, i n addition to numerous other things ... so, I think that particular nuissance rates very very low on the ladder comparatively ...
