Jester is very WIP which is stated in multiple places. I have found him to be reasonably good, at least in GAW I am doing better with the F14 than I have in any other aircraft when it comes to killing AI (avoiding PvP until I get more familiar with the aircraft). He can get a little weird with keeping STT locks at times but I just take control away from him at that point and use PAL mode or something. He also doesn't give IFF information 100% of the time which I would like to see.

He will never match up to an actual human in the back seat though, and heatblur know that.

Get a Human RIO and triple your fun.

Could you give us an address where we can hire a high-end RIO for our rear seats? :music_whistling:

I spent yesterday about 6 hours for fighting with MiG-29 (bots and only GUNZO).

After 4 hours of such perversions, I was forced to turn off the voice prompts of Jester, because he constantly lied to me about the true position of the enemy relative to my plane.

Sometimes he yells that the enemy is right in front of me for 12 hours, and in fact the enemy is already almost on the tail. Then he says that the enemy is at 9 hours and above, and in fact he is on the other side, below and in front., etc. And it repeated and again flight by flight.

In general, besides the fact that he works extremely slowly with the radar, he doesn’t always do the right thing (he himself warns me about target's locked us, we see the target on the TID, but he cannot lock it until I do it myself with PAL), sometimes it also seems that he doesn’t help me, but helps to the enemy.:smilewink:

Without him, flying is too boring - I want someone behind my back seat, even for moral support. But it is impossible to fly with him - it hinders and distracts more.

It's time to send him to TopGun retraining. Because his reactions about cockpit outside situations are too slow.

But in any case, the idea of a Jester is just great. It would be slightly modified, and it would be just perfect.

My thoughts.

- I am impressed by the sound. The stitching sounds rather good conspiring phrases on built on the fly. Does not sounds like Arma at all.

- He is too slow in data entry. I think a real RIO could punch things in and flip switches a lot faster. I think he should be rather fast at 1 g and get slower and sloppier as g's build up. I would be interested in what a real life RIO has to say about the swithology at g's.

- I don't understand why they don't have a simple Jester Pulse search or PD search pattern built it so he can sweep a large area of sky in front of you to give you a description of what's in front of you. Of course it won't be on the TID unless it's TWS or RWS (right?).

I think it's a good start. It's good enough to start learning the Cat and does force you to hop in the back (for single player) to learn some RIO stuff too. I hope HB is up to the task making Jester Smarter with the radar. Sounds hard, and I am glad that it's not my job :).

He punched out on me in the middle of a fight. I finished the fight and flew home, sans canopy.

You get into a furball with multiple bandits and the callouts are non-stop, you can't tell if he's tracking one plane or just rattling off the locations of everyting within 10 nm. And when he finds a moment to breathe, he tries to distract you by letting you know how excited or scared he is.

He is basically worse than useless. Maybe that's why the fight went so well after he punched out.

Yes he isn't great, but it's still a fairly early build and fingers crossed it only gets better. That said I flew recently with a human RIO and it totally transforms the sim, adds a totally new aspect. Well worth seeing if you can find someone to fly with.

I totally under estimated just how much there is to do in the back.

Clearly a decent RIO refuses to fly with us amateurs. He’ll get more experienced over time. Just remember what a big step an AI RIO is, and get with the program.

Also would someone please tell him to put his big-boy panties on when we go low-level, I am getting really sick of him crying like a little girl. Low-level ops = silent Jester! But really, I do enjoy the extra immersion of having an AI RIO.

He is definately way too slow with 'punching buttons' back there thou, my 70yr old dad can punch in co-ordinates faster than him...seriously he is like some old lady in the 80's trying to figure out how to use a computer.

It is really funny doing the Bear escort mission thou..how he gets all excited that the 'Bandit is on our nose, we got him now" - Oh, you mean that gigantic bomber right in front of my cockpit - thanks Jester, but just settle down we are only escorting him for now.

Realise he is WIP, it's all gd. Am sure in future he will realise you are escorting bombers sitting direcly on your nose at <1nm for the last 10 minutes.

For me, Jester in most frustrating in a dogfight. I often find that his callouts are late or completely way off and have me looking in the wrong direction.

Overall though, Jester is incredible and I look forward to his further refinement and improvement.

I'm really enjoying Jester so far. There are some shortcomings here and there, LANTIRN being the highest on my list, but overall the dude is a champ and even if I've flown with human RIO twice I still love good old Jester.

+1 Jester's inaccurate callouts during a dogfight are my biggest gripe right now as well and an area in which I hope to see improvement. It's all new and a WIP for Heatblur so I am sure they will send Jester back to Top Gun for more training.
