Gman109 Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Witwas, IMO due to your PC hardware, I wouldn't even consider going with a Vive Pro or Odyssey+, much less the newer and higher res Reverb. Index, perhaps, but IMO the Rift S is probably your best option. With the new DCS VR improvements coming, your GPU will probably work well with the Rift S (even as is possibly). Since you were very specific you didn't want to outlay more $ for a 9700 or 9900k and 2080ti, I think you'll be best served by the Rift S so far as the new HMD go. Of course, based on the very limited info we all have... Probably the best advice any of us in DCS can take is to wait until the new HMD are actually out and tested by DCS players, as well as waiting for the DCS map/VR optimization to be released, if spending $ on a new HMD is a decision you can only make once and have to get right the first time. javelina1 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I am not so sure - the Rift S might be a nice improvement in image clarity over CV1. We'll know here soon enough I guess. Yep, I plan to provide a report the next morning after it comes in. ;) MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
dawgie79 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Regardless of technical specs, the fact that Oculus sends a few Rift S's to Wags and ED is a huge indicator of the level of support for DCS from Oculus. Coming from someone who hates social media (companies) in general. :) Hell, the fact that they're even aware of DCS and it's potential for VR says a lot in imho.

Oh I'm sure it'll be an improvement over CV1. But the question is, will it be good enough when others have surpassed it by quite a bit. I can tell you that my P5K+ *is* way better than the Rift. Although the software is still catching up. The good news is, you don't know what you don't know. If one's frame of reference is CV1, you'll be happy with the much better resolution. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
witwas Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Thanks for the many reply's, i probably pre-order the rift s as it is almost certain it will work well with dcs. Honestly, if i max up settings and pixel density the image gets way clearer, but then the FPS drops to unplayable. Currently for me (when i play with the settings) it's a trade-off between a clear cockpit or clear outside environment. I hope with upcoming improvements we can have both.
jojo Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Your call, but I think you shouldn't rush. At least wait for ED to release VR optimization, and you will have a better understanding of what you can do with your current hardware, and choose the best optimised headset for your configuration. wormeaten Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) This would be really interesting. This could be a good way to enjoy the higher specs of the Quest on a PC. I would be surprised if the Quest can be wirelessly tethered to a PC and works without issues. My GearVR with LG G5 works OK with 2.4 Ghz WiFi router. Today we have even 5Ghz routers and from first reports working better than CV1 300$ external module for WiFi.
