AG-51_Razor Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Are there any plans to build a WWII era carrier in the near future? Maybe a Pacific Theater Assets pack? I wouldn't expect something for nothing and would be happy to pay for a module like this. Maybe include an AMTRACK and an LSD. An Essex Class or maybe a CVE of some type. I don't know enough about the various IJN classes of carriers but would love to see one of them in the group as well. The USN carrier(s) would also be right at home off the coast of the Korean peninsula and would look just right with an F4U sitting on the deck - even if it was just a -1D. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MegOhm_SD Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 +1 we can wish for all of that. Sure Id pay for a Module with those kind of assets. Raisuli Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 From a game play perspective a floating airbase is a floating airbase is a floating airbase. Besides, we have video proof the Nimitz left Pier 12, NOB NORVA, and ended up near Hawaii in 1941 several days later, along with her Atlantic fleet escorts (including CGN-36). After her F-14s mixed it up with a couple T-6 Texans painted to look like A6M Zeros she returned to Norfolk a few days later. Not that I would complain about an Essex, I just don't see it as a flaming priority. The aircraft that would fly from her would have precedence.
Hunter Joker Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Leatherneck is working on a Iwo Jima map, on a Corsair and probably (it's what I would do from a marketing perspective) at least on a Japanese AI aircraft to counter it. They are also working on a WWII Carrier, american to start but if the Corsair and Iwo Jima sell well I bet a japanese will follow toghter with a japanese module. The Pacific scenario wuth carrier ops is probably the most rewarding at the moment (no other sym to fight...) for ED and third part producer si I think that we have good possibilities for it. rayrayblues Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 +1 we can wish for all of that. Sure Id pay for a Module with those kind of assets. Me too, however, we don't have any carrier based planes yet. I wouldn't want it as purely AI. I would love to have an F6F, an F4U or even an F2A to be able to takeoff and land. Right now the only American fighter plane we have is the Mustang and it is not carrier capable. SLAVA UKRAINI MoBo - ASUS 990FX R2 Sabertooth, CPU - AMD FX 9590 @4.7Gb. rayrayblues Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 we have it, pacific maps and zero XD Seriously?? An I-16 with meatballs on a Carl Vinson?? Not exactly what we are asking for. AG-51_Razor Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 That choice is a mystery to me as the Yorktown was long since under the waves by the time the Corsair began to operate off of carriers. Don't get me wrong though, I am NOT complaining! Just pointing out that they could have picked an Essex class carrier to model that would have been far more realistic AND versatile in terms of using it in WWII and Korean War missions. The Corsair did operate off of the Enterprise, a sister ship, so this will not phase me one bit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Snapage Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 A fleshed out pacific theater is not to far away to be honest. The Corsair, a pacific map and US carrier are already being developed. We also already have the Pacific P51D-30 and the P47D is coming which is also a pacific aircraft. Just need a Japanes carrier and A6M Zero + few more Jap planes.
Hunter Joker Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 The problem is that Magnitude seems don't notice that they potentially have a golden mine under theor nose.... Some screen every four month are the worst marketing that they could made.... Inviato dal mio BLA-L09 utilizzando Tapatalk https://www.youtube.com/user/garaganotube
Cunctator Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 (edited) +1 I am always surprised when people see secrecy and surprise as an universally good marketing tactic. That might work when you have a million followers eagerly waiting for your next product, or an equally big budget for advertising. Nobody has made a Pacific War sim since 2004(!). The F4U could be a good opportunity to bring new people into DCS, from the civil sim world and others. But people must know about your plans to get excited. Currently we only know that M3L will eventually release the F4U-1D someday, is making a carrier that never operated F4U-1Ds and that their follow on module will not be something that fits the Corsair, but a F8 Crusader. It's hard to see any coherent plan. Are the carrier and Corsair just leftovers from previous more grandiose plans? With the same effort they could have made a Korean war/late WW2 F4U-4 and Essex class CV to expand the DCS Korea plane set, instead of starting something new. Edited August 19, 2019 by Cunctator
davidtsw Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Yeah, I would love to see some ww2 carriers and planes for the Pacific theater. Actually I'm surprised they haven't done it yet. It would obviously sell well in the US and I think most European players would be interested in the Pacific, too. Water looks good in DCS right now, the current crappy weather system is perfectly fine for the Pacific and even the maps would probably be easier to develop since they could include some small islands and vast areas of the ocean for realistic carrier but also land-based missions. And there's no competition. Honestly, it's hard to think of a single reason why we're still waiting for the Pacific theater.
AG-51_Razor Posted September 7, 2019 Author Posted September 7, 2019 Just based on the reception of the Hornet and Tomcat, I would think that it would be pretty clear to the folks at ED that a WWII carrier and some carrier based a/c would be a huge seller  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Baco Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 A man can only wish, and dream an believe... Me personally would love a Korean war carrier and corsair, would kill for a panther or a banshee. Then again like Razor says, a CVE and Corsair is the next best thing even if only F4-1s...
AG-51_Razor Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 I'm right there with ya Baco!! A straight deck Essex class or maybe a Commencement Bay class CVE would work great for a Corsair, preferably a -4 or better yet, a -4B but any ol'd Hawg will do for me. Like Baco, I'd do just about anything for a Panther, Banshee or best of all, a good old AD-4 and a map of the Korean penninsula. :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rogonaut Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 played pacific strike back in the day and it was awesome. this would be a scenario i would love to play and im surely not alone. lets cross our fingers that its well underway
Snapage Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 yeah, I personally would like to see some Japanese carrier vs US carrier action. Would add more dynamics to the game. Would have to manage fuel and navigation well, be able to fight and then land on a carrier! Also searching for the enemy fleet would be really fun.
Lieuie Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 While it would be great to see I don't expect ED to create one any time soon since they are still working on European Theater units. They are also working on the Nimitz class carrier module and the Arleigh Burke and an update to the Kuznetsov so I guess they are quite busy for a while. Plus at the moment there are no aircraft that we can fly that operate from a carrier. We will probably have to wait for the Corsair to be released first to see any development on the Pacific Theater let alone a carrier.
AG-51_Razor Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 I am quite sure that you are absolutely correct on that assumption. However that does not mean we should not continue to express our opinions and/or desires here in the WWII forum so that ED will be aware that there is a strong interest in this sublect. And, by the way, carriers and Corsairs operated in theaters other than just the Pacific. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ala13_ManOWar Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I believe once upon a time Leatherneck said that their F4U-1D would be fully fleshed out with a map (Iwojima presumably) and a WWII carrier. Who knows when that can happen but why not since Corsair is still planned by M3 and being worked on in the shadows… S! Snapage Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 While it would be great to see I don't expect ED to create one any time soon since they are still working on European Theater units. I agree but Im not thinking about ED. In my opinion it is a great opportunity for leatherneck make good money. I believe Pacific aircraft + carriers would be super popular and I think leatherneck might be considering it.
AG-51_Razor Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 I sure hope you are right!! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Lieuie Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Leatherneck will probably create one. What I am really interested is if development from the Nimitz is going to provide any help to WWII carriers. Things like comms (although I assume they were different compared to modern ones), carrier personnel, animations etc. Also if it does will they allow Leatherneck to use them.
AG-51_Razor Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 During the "Big Hate", carrier operations involved very little, if any, radio communications. This was due to two things; the radios were very unreliable and couldn't be depended on for voice communications early on in the development of carrier aviation so the primary means of communication was either signal flags or Morse code via aldis lamp or radio. Secondly, once in the war, communications security was very important to them. A lot of the procedures that we perform around the boat now in the Hornet or Tomcat were developed back in the late 30's through the late 40's and have served the carrier aviation community well to this day. We fly up alongside the island at 800 feet with the tail hook down, not because it looks cool, but because a long time ago, that was a signal to the carrier that you intended to land and if the carrier was prepared to accept you, they would raise the signal flag for C - Charlie. I have no idea why the Charlie pennant, maybe because it was easily identified from several hundred feet up, anyway, that became the signal that the carrier was ready to begin recoveries. The one thing that I believe that ED could develop is a way to provide visual LSO cues that would be helpful during the landing just like the IFOLS of today. I have no clue as to the best way to go about this but that would be the one thing they could do that would be most useful :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
