ArcLite Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Hey guys, Been a while since I’ve focused on the Hornet and what I’m trying to do is shore up my startup procedure for multiplayer. I know how to do the full, by the book start, but I am trying to whittle some of the unnecessary “fluff” out my checklist. One question I can’t seem to find an answer for is, will there be any adverse effects if I skip the FCS bit test? (the one where you hold the switch and press the button on the DDI) I know this is a silly thing to make a thread over, but I just want an answer from you smart guys before I get myself in trouble. Thanks for any replies. i9-9900K | 1080Ti 11GB | 32GB DDR4 | TM Warthog | Oculus Rift S | gametrix JetSeat F/A-18C | F-16C | F-14B | A-10C | F-86F | P-51D | P-47D | Spitfire | Fw 190A-8 | Bf 109K-4
astrospud Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Hi Arclite, I've had thoughts about this too, and as Im a really low time Hornet user, I'm nowhere near qualified to give you the answer you need. That said, everytime I've started up, my FCS BIT message has always shown GO after a short time, and that's before I've run any BIT Test. Flown adequately without running the test. My 2c. bbrz Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 No adverse effects. Since FCS failures aren't going to be included in any mission right at the start, there can't be an FCS failure, hence the bit test can be skipped. i7-7700K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070
Deano87 Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 You can skip the audio warning tests and the FCS Bit. Guppy Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 I do the bit test simply because it's part of the start up procedure. Not doing it will not cause any issues, but doing it does not slow down your start up sequence by much. My Simpit Progress and Update Learn how to build a SimPit like mine: Follow my Blog here!
M1Combat Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Doing it actually helps with your timing of the "quick start" from a feedback perspective... and it's just a few clicks while you're waiting for other things anyway. When it completes you get a specific beep sequence that lets you know that you need to reset the FCS, set T/O trim and set flaps to half. I think "Roll Left... Roll Left..." is right about there also, and that's when you roll the left engine. I mean you can do that at any time mostly... but if you're quick and all that... The "Roll Left" call comes right when that's what you should be doing. FalcoGer Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 you can skip the fire system test, lamp test and fcs test without problem. if you skip the fire test, you don't need to reset the bleed air system either. if you want to further cut down the time, right now you can put throttle idle with 0%, way before 20% rpm. you can even set the engine crank switch before the apu ready light is on, with throttle idle and everything is basically autostarting while you flip your ins and radar knobs and turn on the displays. then again, there are probably reasons for checklists.

And what do you mean with 'roll the left engine'? i7-7700K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070
Py Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 What has the GPWS voice alert 'roll left' to do with the engines? Absolutely nothing. It just happens to occur in his startup sequence when he is about to start the left engine anyway. And what do you mean with 'roll the left engine'? I assume he means to begin starting the left engine.
