grant977 Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) So I have been playing the dynamic campaign and its seems to me that when I designate points in the F10 map and use those for IP and ST they are off by a pretty big margin enough where I and not writhin a close vicinity of the Target. I would say more than 2 miles off. I use jester not a human RIO and don’t set foot in jesters place. Is this me doing something. Or missing something? Edited August 29, 2019 by IronMike
grant977 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 I tested it over the weekend in Normandy as well. I did go fine to jester and plotted waypoints via user point so in f10. ST was Ruen and the ins takes me nearly 5nm north of the city. This amount of error cannot be right. I have saved heeding alignment on for the mission. Any have any kind of input?
Hoffster Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Normal INS drift? I don't have the F-14 yet so i can't test.
Ramsay Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Is this me doing something. Or missing something? Any have any kind of input? Please post a track, AFAIK a lot will depend on how aggressive you are manoeuvring and the time spent in the air. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
grant977 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 35 mins airborne just about. With some moderate maneuvering. With that said does jester automatically do tacan fixes and such to update the ins?
QuiGon Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Maneuvering doesn't really make a difference, but time airborne does. The longer you fly, the bigger your drift gets. Unfortunately Jester does not yet have the ability to do nav fixeys to update the INS. Only a human RIO can do so atm. grant977 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 Also it seems the map points jester plugs in from the f10 seem to be more off than pre mission loaded waypoints. Anyone else notice this?

They are not off. You are experiencing INS drift. grant977 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 Ok good that’s what I wanted to know. I’ll have to get in the back seat and update it.
Harlikwin Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 They are not off. You are experiencing INS drift. Yup. INS drift was/is a very real issue in combat aircraft. grant977 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 220 mi flight to Target in Iran and ins is off 12nm is that a realistic drift? I am on autopilot keeping it level and steady for the near 40min flight inbound.

I am on autopilot keeping it level and steady for the near 40min flight inbound. Doesn't sound too unrealistic. I've read a story about A-10As (so not GPS equipped) that deployed from Spain to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and their INS drifted so far off that they couldn't even find their airfield at all and had to contact ATC to help them. Of course, that distance is a bit more than 220nm, but the drift must have been bigger too in order to not be able to even find an entire airfield. grant977 Posted August 7, 2019 Author Posted August 7, 2019 Ok cold start Persian gulf have jester do a stored heading Alingment. Take off head towards waypoint I had him plug in from map it’s 80nm out. Fly directly too strait and level. I arrived with ins 5nm off. Will it drift that badly that quick. Less than 20 mins in air.
IronMike Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 If you are using stored heading alignment, then this is not drift, but a bug. We are currently fixing it. Thank you for your reports.
