AH-64 Apache Crash Afghanistan after crazy maneuver.

Anyone know something more about the incident?

I wonder what was the altitude in this incident? Apache's could not fly above mountains between Albania and Serbia back in 1999. Two Apaches crashed then.

Yes, they could. Lack of training for high altitude operations was the cause of the crashes.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

I heard it was the fog or clouds covering mountain tops!

Wow!, seems like the 64 missed those soldier by a couple of feet. Insane!

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

In an environment where use of Apache's was not necessary at all, two Apache helicopter crews were sent to fly over a terrain for which they were not trained to fly? What are you talking about? I am talking about 1999. Please check my post again.

BTW this thread is about pictures/videos and I will not post further comments on this subject.

SAM = Stealth STOP!

Well, Apaches can fly, but the lack of training in high ALT for the crews was causing crashes in the past and now. US Army crews train in Austria high ALT OPS for this reason too, with our crews who know how to fly up there.

In Afghanistan, the ALT`s are pretty high in some places, thats why you see Apache Longbow`s even flying around without radar on the top (not really needed anyway) or minimal weapons load, to save weight, for performance reasons....

We are talking about the two Apache crashes in ALbania in 1999? Both of the above are incorrect.

The first crash was settling with power without sufficient altitude remaining to recover (pilot error). This crash was actually caught on video.

The second crash was a malfunction in the BUCS (Backup Control System) that caused the aircraft to have an uncommanded roll during low level flight that resulted in a crash before the pilot could regain control.

Also, the U.S. Army High Altitude Aviation Training Site (HAATS) is in Colorado and is the primary training site for high altitude operations for all branches of the military. Of course, when stationed in Europe, it's a long way to Colorado, so local training opportunities (such as Austria) are a great supplement.

How severe is the punishment to pilot in a situation like this provided he survived. Seems to me he was show boating.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Case by case, we don't know if he was show boating, could have been million different reason that happened. Accidents are never cause by one reason or one event, is always a series of events.
