Pilotasso Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 The strange thing would be if the 493rd SQN. from LN, with 8x F-15 against 2x Thypoon from Spain, with the same missiles I guess the AIM-120's (simulated), are not able too shoot down a single Typhoon!? What I know the LN F-15's are up to date Eagles with the latest software and radars (not 60`s style), if it is true then the Typhoon is a blast. But remember it is like selling Cars, on the Fighter market. :smilewink: Dont sweat it, the article must be bogus, remenber its the manufacturers site, manufacturers do bend reality to sell their stuff. The timing inst innocent either, this week the MRCA contest was on focus again. .
Eddie Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Dont sweat it, the article must be bogus, remenber its the manufacturers site, manufacturers do bend reality to sell their stuff. The timing inst innocent either, this week the MRCA contest was on focus again. And why MUST it be bogus Pilotasso? I'd love for you to explain exactly why you think it's not possible for a Typhoon 2 ship to defeat 8 Eagles. I can't comment on this article specifically, but UK Typhoons have done exactly as reported in this article on multiple occasions, as you'd expect them to do given the technical advantages they posses over most other aircraft.
Pilotasso Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Spanish Typhoons fly over here in numerous exercises, and their overall contribution for team objectives achievments has been very modest. Unfortunatly who sees them flying will not comment about statistic results and sure hell no online site will tell you what they couldnt ;) Heres a taste of what has been like: http://www.emfa.pt/www/includes/mostraVideo.php?lang=pt&file=RTP_Piloto_de_Combate 10:45 Edited January 24, 2010 by Pilotasso .
Eddie Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Well, I have no doubt that the Spanish pilots don't make full use of the aircraft, they fly on average 1/2 the hours we do so have far less practice. Also their Typhoons are mostly less advanced block 2B variants last time I bothered to check, although I think they have some Block 8s now. You are more correct that you think about no online (or offline for that matter) source telling you the whole truth. You can find some details of the jet online, there is even a flight manual from 2005 on the net somewhere, but for the most part details of the systems and capabilities are still very classified. Fortunately some of us don't have to contend with such issues ;).
GGTharos Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Riiight, and suddenly they're blowing up 4 F-15's a piece, eh? ;) I'm thinking those F-15's were carrying ALAMO pods and pretending to be Su-27's with mechanically scanned radars still. ;) The problem with these DACT things is that what you see is not what you get. Edit: I have no problem believing the Tiffy is a superior aircraft though - that is the point, naturally. Griffin Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Someone definitely should start a thread "My... Gun is bigger than yours" for this kind of discussions. Pilotasso Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Eurofighter.com is known to be over-optimistic in many of its claims. I get my info about the plane from other less biased publishers. Edited January 24, 2010 by Pilotasso .

Then the difference in terms of a BVR engagement is negligible. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
Eddie Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 But if point aircraft have radar's and BVR missiles of equal parity. Then the difference in terms of a BVR engagement is negligible. Indeed, if said aircraft can also engage without actually switching on their radars ;). Which of course only requires the aircraft to have MIDS and a fully integrated avionics suite. While many aircraft should have MIDS or at least standard Link-16 by now, the only gen 4 a/c I know of that has this stuff is Typhoon, although Rafale has some degree of avionics integration. Then of course you throw DASS and PIRATE into the mix and the rules change even more.
topol-m Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Found a good banner for that thread: :D Exactly. It is all right to comment on the news but this rather large 6 pages long discussion does not belong here. Please open a specific thread for aircraft/weapons /systems comparison or DICKS measurement or use the existing specific aircraft threads. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 All F-15's have been retrofitting MIDS since '04, IIRC. The F-22 has even more advanced datalink, but it's only between F-22's, which caused some issues. Indeed, if said aircraft can also engage without actually switching on their radars ;). IvanK Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 This aircraft was restored in the UK and went to the USA in 2007 for final restoration to flight status which is imminent.

Actualy the Rafale has had the upper hand till now in that respect, because it is more mature while the typhoon has been flying with off the shelf avaiable equipment or place holders for quite a while. When complete then yes it will the better interceptor and dogfighter. On the other hand when the rafale recieve its AESA radar the gap between the APG-63V3 equiped F-15, Typhoon and rafale will be smaller. The 3 will be close at BVR on paper, though the 2 youngest aircraft will enjoy certain integration and automation advantages. .
Zulu Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I dont think that name will be very popular with its pilots ! To INVENT an Airplane is Nothing. To BUILD One is Something. But to FLYis EVERYTHING. - Otto Lilienthal [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Fjordmonkey Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 "What do you do for a living?" "I'm a pilot." "Oh, cool! What do you fly?" "Cocks...." Yeah, can see how that wouldn't be very popular :p Regards Fjordmonkey Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone. I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Thanks god that's only NATO silly name, and not an official designation :music_whistling: Maybe Russia should start giving designations for NATO aircraft as well. Then things would get funny :D
