Hey guys, I'm having a very weird issue with the JTAC, I tried a Humvee JTAC and also a Reaper drone just in case it was poor LOS. For some reason the first 3 targets he designates with his laser are perfect spot on hits, the first two he tells me to use AGM-65E's, the third target he tells me to use GBU-12's. The fourth target he designated misses every time, I can't seem to hit the target, anyone else having this weird bug/issue? Thanks

EDIT: And when I say it misses, I mean it misses by a long shot, not just next to target, no where near the target, it's almost like the bomb is not picking up the laser at all which I've confirmed laser code.

Just been testing JTAC this morning, seems ok for me.

attach a track replay or the mission and we will take a look

thanks

Apparently the track file is too large to post??

Have you tried using the TPOD LSS mode to track the JTAC's laser and make sure it's firing for every target? This would help narrow the issue down.

A buddy and I went in with 8 mav's total and no problem, also went in with GBU's without a problem.. Not exactly sure why I was having problems before but I'll do LSS if I run into anymore issues, thanks a lot for your help guys.

Note: IIRC the JTAC's laser will time out after 5 minutes, so don't call for laser ON too early.

Seems ok for me,

all mavericks and gbu-12's used with no issues.

6 targets destroyed

Welp.. I just set up more targets in a different location, open field and it's doing it again, mavericks work fine, all GBU's failed to hit the target.. could it possibly be due to the Reaper not having good line of sight at the time of impact?

I'll be making a YouTube video showing you how I set up my bombs, and what ends up happening, if you guys could please watch it when it's uploaded and let me know if it's something on my end or if it's the JTAC being weird, again really appreciate your guys help. BTW when lasing from my own TPOD it works just fine, another thing to mention, I did use LSS on the TPOD to see if JTAC was lasing and he was, directly on the target, but missed.

could it be that as you are dropping the bomb at the target waypoint and the target itself is closer to you than that waypoint, the bomb is not able to see the laser and is flying over the target?

That might explain the apparent intermittent nature of the issue, as that would be affected by the direction of approach.

Well the coordinates are given to me by JTAC it's not a preassigned WP

The same thing happened at the X emergency runway south of there, that time I put the waypoint smack dab in the center of the X, still did it

My only thoughts are

I was using LSS with TPOD to find the laser and I was dropping for the correct tank each time,

as you are not searching for a laser and doing a general area drop for targets over a wide area and at medium altitude some targets are out side the search limits bombs laser search?

but from your comment above you think you have ruled this out.

Yes I used LSS to search for the laser before I made that recording, it picked the laser up and it was right on target, I dropped and the bomb missed. I also tried dropping at 15,000 feet instead of 10,000 still no joy.... don't know what I'm doing wrong.

My buddy should be on in a few hours and I'll have him take a whack at it.. see what happens.

Try a different FAC/JTAC. How high was the Reaper and how wide was its orbit?

He was about 15,000 and I'm not sure I had the ability to change its orbit size

Never mind. I've tested FAC/A and ground based JTAC's from fairly close distances, clear LOS and it made no difference as far as type of JTAC vehicles. In all cases their laser aiming skills were slightly off. I used GBU 10's in some tests so blast radius was big enough to smoke the targets.

As far as the bombs picking up the laser "spot", no issues there (in my tests)

This clip shows 2 attacks: first JTAC decided to change the primary target (bunker) and told me to use guns on nearby fuel trucks marked by WP smoke. Second run: GBU10 against the bunker marked by laser. The biggest hassle for me was getting my TP to show the "spot", slewing and lack of grid input, etc. Unfinished TP is probably the biggest pain in the butt for me.

Just watched your video, could my problem be due to possibly having the drone orbit directly over the targets? Thereby having his laser masked due to my aircraft flying over the drop zone and causing the bomb to not acquire the laser?
