Im not entirely sure if this is a problem or not, but its causing me great annoyance. Im going through the abbreviated checklist, ive got air, ive got electric, and im trying to start up the right engine first. I wait till about 20 percent, and it wont turn over. The left starts just fine.

This is on multiplayer. Even worse, I seem to have the same problem reoccur immediately after coming out of the particular role in the multiplayer group and going back in.

Can anyone reproduce this, or is my own sticky finger at fault?

The manual of the real plane says that either engine can be started first .. this is my summary of the start procedure:

NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1 :

10.3.2 Start

6. ENG CRANK switch — L (left engine).

Observe AUX and PARK brake pressure rise. Observe combined hydraulic system pressure

rise.

7. ENG CRANK switch — OFF.

8. ENG CRANK switch — R (right engine).

Observe flight hydraulic system pressure rise.

9. ENG CRANK switch — OFF.

Anyway, it also works for me if I start the right engine first.

Yeah, I just tried the left hand one, I get the electric, I get the air, I turn on oxygen, I select startup from Jester, he pulls down the canopy, I get the ok to crank, I wait till I get to 20 percent, click the throttle, and nothing.

This is in multiplayer, can anyone else confirm this is happening to them? Its an abbreviated checklist, but I believe im hitting all the essentials.

NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1 :

Same manual, page 7-15:

7.4.3 Engine Start — Pilot. Prior to engine start,

the pilot and plane captain should ascertain that the

turnup area is clear of FOD hazards, adequate firesuppression

equipment is readily available, and engine

intakes and exhausts are clear. Although the engines

cannot be started simultaneously, either engine can be

started first. The following procedure establishes starting

the right engine first.

If the OP is performing the same procedure and it only fails on MP, then I believe that it is likely a Bug.

Just tried the tuition startup, worked fine. Tried again without the test but doing pretty much everything else (including turning the Hydraulics off) in multiplayer and again it wont start.

I forget which multiplayer server I was trying on, but it was a Persian gulf one if anyone wants to give it a try. Though im pretty sure ive had some starting problems on the caucasus server as well.

Thats an interesting point about throttles, I will try that. I would suggest though that if its a recurring problem, it probably ought to be flagged as a bug anyway.

It may be a silly question, but did you fuel the jet? A lot of multiplayer servers don’t have fuel in the jets.

Oh dear, do I feel silly....

Ibellouny, thank you so much for that, you absolutely nailed it. The server didnt host the jets with fuel in them. This has been bugging me all weekend!

Note to self, check the fuel gauges before takeoff. :D

Sorry fellas for this, many thanks to you all for trying to clear it up.

First you gave me a shock, because the "right engine not starting after being hit" bug gives me nightmares, and I was thinking already it "expanded" lol, but hey the laugh at the end was worth it! :D

In any case, no worries. I've sat around issues for much more stupid reasons before, that's why it never hurts to ask.

I guess the right engine bug isn't fixed?

I had it recently in a mp server after beeing shot down, leaving the server and rejoining didn't fix it.

Left engine started normaly.

Then why "The left starts just fine" without fuel?

That was on another server, and I think that was probably another problem. its not always that easy to tell in vr when you are at 20 percent. It may be the case that ive clicked on a throttle when I thought I was at 20 percent, but was in fact below it. What I normally do now is count to 5 slowly when I think its at 20 percent, and I know its there.

Which begs the question. If you DO cook an engine, is it possible that, if you only change roles to another F14 slot, it may carry that damage across? I had the same problem occur two or three times on a carrier where one engine would start but the other would not. Not recently, but it has happened.

It might be the scary "right engine not starting after being hit" problem Mike already mentioned.

It really should happen only if you have been hit or took damage otherwise. If it happens just like that, on start, for you, please open a new report.

Im not certain of it enough at present to start a new report, but Ill experiment and keep and eye on it. I certainly shall if I can confirm it.
