Can Anyone help I cannot seem to use my MODS fro Ranger 79, VPC airfield objects?, Tents , Ships etc etc

Does anyone is this because of the latest update? or do the writers of these mods need to update them?

Many Thanks

The Ranger79 mod is not up to date and thus unusable. I don't know about the others, but if they don't appear, then it's the same case.

The only way to get them to work again is to tell the mod creator to re-export the models.

Sadly, the update to DCS 2.5.5 left many older Mods unusable

Yes, they need to update ... for example the author of the VPC Airfield issued a patch here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3959911&postcount=275

Unfortunately, some authors have passed away, like the late Lilkiki; others were not happy about the way ED treated the modders and have ceased to publish their Mods here; and others dont have the original files or the time to update their Mods :(

Thank you all for confirming that! I kinda wished I never updated now tho.

It’s such a shame developers get greedy in that way

That's so ungrateful ... Mods are free .. how can their developers be greedy?

Does anyone know what happened that made the models not work? Did ED change their file format or something?

Also I am assuming that we would need the original files for the models to make them work again.

ED introduces changes to their propietary 3D-model format (EDM) whenever the advances to the 3D engine of DCS requires it, this has happened several times in the past. While the format is propietary, the tool to convert from 3D Studio to EDM is freely available, so anyone with the expertise can create a 3D model that DCS will be able to use.

Not "we", only the original author of each model should be the one to update the Mod .. even if somehow we could get access to the original 3D files, we cant legally use them to fix the Mod.

As the EDM Format evolves, older versions of the Format are no longer supported, for various reasons, ie: depreciated shaders, materials, rendering, etc etc etc.

It is up to the Owner of the Mod(s) to Update them if they wish to do so.

Most mods have been re compiled with the new EDM format. Ranger79 objects were extremely valuable to the mission designers community but Ranger79 left the modding community for some time and he was not answering PMs. Some other modders though took over to replace (partially) some of the objects. So today, the loss of switching to the new EDM is, I would say, 85% recovered. It's still a PITA tough to re work the older missions to make it work with the new objects.
