It is difficult to estimate when the mod will be available. There is still a lot of work to be done but I will keep you guys updated. 😉

Barthek, can you explain how the new system works? Will it be more efficient performance wise, or space wise, or neither. Does it result in more random field generation or a more realistic look from all angles? Thanks,

Let me guess.  No way to use this without breaking IC?

The original map just feels so tired now.  Would be nice if ED did something.  Like incorporate this somehow.

Yeah. Don’t see ED’s decision here.

Two free maps for new players.

Caucasus is really old and feels that way, but super performance. Love the Barthek mod, and would not fly the map otherwise.

Marianas is small, looks good, but runs with terrible performance. It even tanks my RTX4090 in VR when flying over the airbases. On par with parts of South Atlantic maps when it comes to low/unstable fps.

Is there a way to make compatible "light" and regular versions?  Servers and lower end PC's could use light and people can opt in to a higher quality version.  If the layout of all the terrain and objects is the same, it should be fine.  It could even just be built in and go by a check of graphics settings.

Not yet. There's still a lot to be done. I want this version to be different, more authentic. Unfortunately, I can only play with the textures and not with the landclass itself - so when something looks nice in one part of the map, it doesn't look that good in the other. Looking for compromise sadly takes a lot of time. 🙂

Yeap... But even ED is not bothered by triangle mountains, unfortunately ...

The map runs on the old version of the engine, so I imagine nothing else can be done to improve it.

Unfortunately... But your mod gives it the second life anyway 🙂

I am already using your current mod (same for other RW pilots of my Virual Squadron) and for sure we are waiting for your next improvments who is just amazing.
Caucasus map is reborn !
I hope that te coming Kola Peninsula map will be of the same quality at low altitude... otherwise you know what you'll have to do! 😁😁

@Barthek

Thank you for your work. 🤩

I see the screenshots and have to ask: how do you get all the trees in the far distance? I have maxed out all of my sliders inside DCS and my trees are going away at nearly 5 miles.

Furthermore, I did many slow repairs and rebuild all the shaders several times, after that I thought it is like it is. Now I see your screenshots and DCS looks so much better in the far distance (more detailed). What's your trick?

I had the same issue someone else mentioned earlier in the thread in that when I applied this mod plus the TAD1004 trees one, as recommended, I just got a black screen. I removed both, did a repair and all was working again.

I'll try again, but it's weird. Using JSGME for both.

@Nedum - I'm sure I saw someone talking about a small tweak to an lua file in the trees mod thread, to make them show up at a further distance. I don't do it for VR performance, but that's probably where to look.

What is your "Visib Range" set to?

Thank you for your response.

That are my VR Settings and the Visibility Range is set to Extreme.

And I think in the past the Forrest Visibility Slider was the one for the LOD distance for the trees alone. Now the Visibility Range alone dictates how far we can see the trees if we set the Tree Visibility to max. And as you can see the trees become invisible very soon. I can't really see a LOD-System working.

But please let us not derail this Thread and pm me, if you have another idea.

I've made changes to some of the LUA files responsible for rendering. I bet they also affected the trees rendering distance.

I've recently spent some time playing with the mountainous regions. Here are the results:
