The SU-33 has no hookup for a catapult so you'd need to just try a running start.

Don't see why not...though without the Kuznetsov ski jump you might need to start your takeoff run at the far end of the stern :smilewink:

I'm not opossed to fictional coalitions and missions backgrounds, but I do like to keep things plausible ..

 

.. if ever the Russian Navy would operate jointly with the USN, I can envision a mixed fleet, with both a russian and an american carrier, and helicopter traffic between them ... but never a russian aircraft landing or taking off from the USN carrier.
