av8r13 Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Just a quick question, will the wake behind the carrier be updated/fixed? at the moment there is no long wake behind the ship.
pimp Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Yes. I'm guessing you haven't seen the screenshots. i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals
av8r13 Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 i only saw the latest video tease (which is awesome). there is only one quick view of the wake, and it is hard to tell
pimp Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Here's a WIP pic from the screenshot section: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/upload/iblock/997/DCS-Supercarrier-13.jpg i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals
av8r13 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 thanks pimp. that does look much better. i also hope that it extends far enough behind the boat so that it can be used for line up. (being nit-picky) great job DCS. really looking forward to the mod
Honez Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Being an old Navy guy I'm here to tell you that none of the ships have a proper wake. Navel ships generate quite a big wake when at speed launching aircraft don't care what the size of the ship. The wakes are big. I would totally like to see more realism around the wake.
AG-51_Razor Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I totally agree with Honez! I can easily see the wake of a ship while sitting in an airliner up at 35K feet! They need to be much longer, wider and brighter. Actually though, this is a thread for the DCS World 2.5 Wish List I believe. This isn't something that is going to get fixed with the super carrier module. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Northstar98 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) I just hope that the white areas actually 'flow' if you know what I mean (currently they're fixed rigid with the ships, looking very unnatural). The one in the screenshot looks like a fancier take on the wake currently implemented in DCS... Which yes definitely grateful, but leaves much to be desired, particularly when it comes to size, smaller vessels and fast moving vessels. The white should be way more dense and preferably 3D close to the ship. Unfortunately in that screenshot, the wake behind that Arleigh Burke DDG is tiny, when in reality: Edited December 17, 2019 by Northstar98 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. joey45 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Wake is a Core issue not module issue. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. r4y30n Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 With the Arleigh Burke next up I'm sure they'll make a push for better surface vessel effects.
Northstar98 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Wake is a Core issue not module issue. Certainly is, but I think there's hope that the supercarrier module will encourage further development into the maritime environment. Pikey Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Wake is a Core issue not module issue. So is spawning, taxiing, ATC, deck slipping, yet they have said they are changing those ontop of a model. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
lharv71 Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Wakes Wakes are proportional to ships speed, size, and very importantly sea state. Turn a carrier into the wind with 3 to 6 ft swells you will get a good break off the bow. Also, calm sea ship at 0 to 15 kts will start a wake around midships, increase speed the wake start farther forward. Ex-Navy Dude Ozzy
