DCS freezes at loading screen

8 times out of 10, when I start DCS on my laptop (Dell G3 15), it freezes on the first loading screen, with the DCS logo, not with the loading bar. Suddenly the mouse becomes visible and that's it. I have to force shut it down from the task manager. Then try again, and eventually it will open. Any ideas why this happens?

update your graphics drivers just in case.

It’s up to date. This crash was an exception, but most of the time I can’t even start dcs.

I updated my drivers, uninstalled my anti virus, tries win 7 compatibility mode, nothing. It still takes 8-10 tries before the game actually starts.

so, technically it does start ok.

Try renaming your dcs folder in saved games ( keep it as a backup ) this will rule out a settings / mod / config problem.

 

C:\Users\GregGale\Saved Games\DCS.openbetabackup

 

then restart DCS it will generate a new one.

 

Also ensure windows and all drivers are up to date.

 

It maybe worth increasing your pagefile also

Technically maybe, but in reality it never gets through the first loading screen. I have tried renaming my saved games folder, but I will now increase the page file. Thanks!

Unfortunately the page file setting didn't help. It got rid of the issue for a day but now I'm getting it again.

No overclocks, stock settings. Now for the last 20 times I tried to start DCS I got this freeze 20 times in a row. I tried to restart my PC 2 times. No idea why it happens, and why it doesn't sometimes, but it's very annoying :(

In my case the problem was with DisplayFusion (I need to turn it off before starting the game, then everything will be ok).

Pls try to close all software, then start game

Which security / antivirus do you use?

 

I had McAfee, but I had the same hunch and I uninstalled. Now I have AVG. Didn't help.

Everytime it happens, when the loading screen comes in, the windows loading cursor appears for a split second. Then a few seconds later I see the cursor, the CPU usage of DCS.exe drops to 0 from around 20%, but the RAM usage remains at 1 gig. When the game starts propery, thewindows loading cursor doesn't show at all.

Hey, just wanted to post that I have started experiencing similar as well over the last month or so. Haven't really dug in, but when it happens to me I am usually trying to 'alt-tab' out while DCS loads and it will sometimes just goto the DCS logo screen with windows cursor and hang. I have to kill via TaskManager and when I reload I just remain "hands off" until everything is loaded up and I am good. I have also had it happen when I am loading up the Mission Editor (goes to logo screen and hangs).... again I kill and reload and go "hands off" and I am good again.

So maybe my Pc is alt tabbing for a split second when I start dcs? How can I check what it does? It happens so fast.

Try to turn off ALL background software and then run DCS.

It should help.
