Delareon Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Hi folks, i startet to build me some sort of Homepit. Since im using VR i dont need a full pit with all the Buttons and lights, so the first thing i want to achieve is getting the controls where they belong to. My seat is a PÖANG from Ikea, mounting the Throttle is no problem since i can mount it on the side. For the Stick i currently plan to use my X65 Stick at the side for the F-16. But for the other stuff i want my Thrustmaster Stick center mounted. Im not quite sure how to get it center mountet. Since im a Graphic Designer my knowledge of "building some wooden stuff" is very limited :P So i thught maybe the Community here can give me some headstart and give me some Tips and ideas on how to Mount the Stick centered in my Seat?

Ala12Rv-Tundra Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 I use a Virpil desk mount... attached to my desk. I don´t know if you are planning using a desk too behind your pit. punk solution, with the squared frame somehow bolted to the "floor", and a extension may be nice, you also would need a cable extension. i5 8400 | 32 Gb RAM | RTX 2080Ti | Virpil Mongoose T-50 base w/ Warthog & Hornet sticks | Warthog throttle | Cougar throttle USB | Orion 2 throttle base w/ Viper & Hornet grips| VKB T-Rudder Mk IV | Oculus Rift S | Buddy-Fox A-10 UFC | 2x TM MFDs & 1x WW DDI | 2x Bass shakers | SIMple SIMpit chair | WW TakeOff panel | Andre JetSeat | WW Hornet UFC | WW Viper ICP FC3 - Warthog - F-5E - Harrier - NTTR - Hornet - Tomcat - Huey - Viper - C-101 - PG - Hip - SuperCarrier - Syria - Warthog II - Hind - South Atlantic - Sinai - Strike Eagle - Phantom - Mirage F1 - Afghanistan - Irak

bobslob Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Do you have basic tools? Here's what I made for about $10 worth of wood and paint. Wooden rails were made using 1" and 2" wide plywood screwed to the under side of the desk. Rest was made to fit around the stick itself. Slides in and out when not in use.
VpR81 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 If you want it cheap and easy, i'd suggest getting an extension for your WH and place your chair on some kind of bottomplate, wood or metal. Drill 4 holes into it that match with the holes of the Warthogs baseplate, attach the TM base to it's baseplate and mount everything on your bottomplate, voilá. Just make sure your bottom plate has a fitting size and is heavy enough not to move around. Delareon Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 Thanks to all the helpfull people here :) it sounds like the Road i had to go is to use some sort of baseplate where i can mount the stick. I dont have a Desk in my "Pit" but im thinking to construct some sort of front plate where i can mount my Thrustmaster MFDs. So i can use this to mount the stick. Currently not sure if i still want to use them in VR . Here is a link to the current state of my Simpit: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8UHdZ3L2YREe8wBn9
ignition22 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 The harder part would probably be making a hole or cut out in the cushion without destroying it. If your comfortable doing that or know someone who can sew or make you another seat cushion with a U shape missing from the front then you could find many different ways to mount the stick in the right spot.
Raisuli Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 If you can't do it with aluminum it doesn't need to be done :)
ignition22 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 If you can't do it with aluminum it doesn't need to be done :) Technically true :P Personally for me I found the positioning to be too high if the stick base is on top of the seat, especially if you also use an extension. Also if the seat is reclined then it has to also clear the front part of the seat where it is highest. But I guess most people center mount a stick that way so certainly doable. For a short while I used a wheel stand pro I had spare as a joystick base because the post is telescopic and rotatable its easily adjustable to many positions but not sure if id recommend it as a permanent solution.
