carss Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Curious, are there any planes to update the model of the USS Carl Vinson? Right now it's like an empty shell we can't use in the game because its not compatible with the newer Hornet or Tomcat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Planes: FC3, P-51, F-86, F-5E, Mirage 2000, F/A-18, F-14, F-16, Mig-19P :joystick: ED pls gib A-4 and F-4
Bobik2002 Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 I think update come with super carrier. Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk Ryzen 9 5900x | 32GB DDR4 | RTX 3090 | 32GB RAM
carss Posted January 15, 2020 Author Posted January 15, 2020 I think update come with super carrier. I really hope so [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Planes: FC3, P-51, F-86, F-5E, Mirage 2000, F/A-18, F-14, F-16, Mig-19P :joystick: ED pls gib A-4 and F-4
QuiGon Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 No, the Vinson is deprecated anhd won't get any updates anymore and its not recommend to use the Vinson when building missions. The only reason why it hasn't been removed from the game is to not break older mission that used the Vinson in the past when the Stennis wasn't available. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Grimes Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 It is rather trivial to make the Vinson file load a different model and just have a new texture for it. Even the slightly inaccurate Stennis model would be better than the existing one. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. carss Posted January 16, 2020 Author Posted January 16, 2020 Just curious though, wouldn't updating the Vinson bring old missions back to life and also provide a new asset to use in the game? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Planes: FC3, P-51, F-86, F-5E, Mirage 2000, F/A-18, F-14, F-16, Mig-19P :joystick: ED pls gib A-4 and F-4
Grimes Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Just curious though, wouldn't updating the Vinson bring old missions back to life and also provide a new asset to use in the game? Same could be accomplished by modifying the mission to use the Stennis, new ships, or giving it the Stennis model and spray paint a 0 over the 4. My point of view on this is more that the old object can still be placed and that it has different rules for spawning. For instance the Vinson can't really support players using it at all, the Stennis can but it only has a few spawn points, and the new CVs have 14 spawns and its a little bigger overall. So there is essentially 3 different levels of quality for a Nimitz class carrier in terms of the object itself and how players interact with it all based on whatever is placed in the mission. Ideally there should be only 1, but ED are hell bent on selling the CV DLC the way it is, so the pragmatic solution would be to bring the Vinson up to Stennis spec. Bringing the Vinson to Stennis spec with more spawn points. Or it could also essentially be the new Carrier DLC itself when it's out (not sure if this is possible but in case it is) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Planes: FC3, P-51, F-86, F-5E, Mirage 2000, F/A-18, F-14, F-16, Mig-19P :joystick: ED pls gib A-4 and F-4

There is no point in using the Vinson anymore. It's just there to prevent old missins from becoming unusable. Kang Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 A lot of confusion about this might come from the fact that these various objects are actually named after individual ships. Try to think of them as Nimitz (old), Nimitz (new) and Nimitz (improved) or somesuch and it'll all fall into place.

Try to think of them as Nimitz (old), Nimitz (new) and Nimitz (improved) or somesuch and it'll all fall into place. This Apart from classes of one, ships should preferably be listed by class, maybe subvariant/refit year etc if applicable and hull classification. For Russian vessels, if in English it should probably be the NATO reporting name and for Russian localisation project number, Russian class name and Russian hull classification. ED recently did this with the Ticonderoga and Oliver Hazard Perry class (subvariant/refit is I guess unnecessary with only 1 subvariant present). e.g Krivak II class frigate/FF / Project 1135M Burevestnik-M BPK Nimitz class (Theodore-Roosevelt) aircraft carrier/CVN Ticonderoga class (Mk41) guided missile cruiser/CG Oliver Hazard Perry class (Long Hull) guided missile frigate/FFG Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.
