tflash Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 He guys, This weekend there is a Simware Simulations Show by Simware in Brussels: http://www.simw.com There is a booth with DCS Black Shark, and a very symptathetic Jim from the Fighter Collection helped me to try out the Black Shark. I must say, this is a VERY good sim. The combination of 6DOF and fluid flight dynamics make for a completely new experience. Flying was incredibly hard (to hard for me, I have to confess I flew in easy mode ). I also liked the terrain vey much: a lot of detail, and more lush than standard Lockon. The DCS:BS cockpit is just incredible. Forget everything you've seen. Most important: It featured Urze's fantastic collective! Urze, you're the man! A must have for Lockon. The collective is mounted on a Saitek X52 throttle, and gives much more feel. I can guarantee you this is necessary, since a chopperflies totally differently than a plane, even when the Ka-50 has autothrottle and counter-rotating blades. I foudn it very difficult to "dive", e.g. On the other hand, the fact you can hoover means that vikhr work (I didn't fire any though) is more useful than on the Froggy. I must say I just cannot imagine how you can both fly and fight this complex machine; a WSO would be very welcome. All in all, DCS:BS is well worth the wait, believe me! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

bengo Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 What hardware was BS running on ? i7 6700k/GTX1070-8G/MSI-Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon/32GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX PREDATOR DDR4 3000MHZ Vengeance 1600/TM Warthog #6106/Samsung SB350_S27B350H/OCZ Agility3 SSD 128GB / Win10-64/TIR5
tflash Posted November 3, 2007 Author Posted November 3, 2007 According to JimMack, a very modest PC with only ... 512Mb RAM, which I found hard to believe: the game indeed loaded very slowly, but played very smooth, with no terrain stuttering at all! The much much lower speeds of the helo mean of course that less chunks of terrain have to be loaded. Anyway, DCS:BS should run on most if not all PC's running Lo:FC. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bengo Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Thanks mate. Wasn't able to go there myself this year. thereminqblank Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I went to the show yesterday aswell, and made a bee line for the black shark set up. I was very excited to get a go and was very surprised when I finally got the beast off the ground! :D It's going to take a lot of practice to fly the Shark smoothly. I was so busy thinking about flying that I wondered between two platoons of armour and was shot up a little by Shilkas. I managed to take quite a few hits before spiralling out of control. It would have been nice to see it go up in flames, but the ol' no crash option was on. The Shark just spasmed on the ground like a dead animal, ha! Even though the PC was 'modest' the simulator still looked real pretty like! But yes, it was very slow to load. Thanks JimMack for giving a brief tuition. His enthusiasm is infectious! And Urze, you're collective mod is amazing. It has an incredibly professional finish and I will be seriously considering a purchase of one when Black Shark arrives! Unfortunately, between having a pretty horrible week and waking up at 4 am on the day to catch the 6.10am train to Brussels, my fuzzy mind forgot to remind me to take my camera!! But trying out Black Shark, followed by a nice meal in Brussels and 3 or 4 blanche beers certainly made, for an awesome day! "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
