imacken Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Just reaquainting myself with the Mirage, and couldn't believe how dark the cockpit is. I mean it's impossible to see some of the dials, far less what they are set at, and that is with all internal lighting turn up to the max! I have to ramp up gamma to crazy leverls which makes the terrains look horrible. Does anyone know of a mod, or a way to lighten up the textures? TLTeo Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) I have the same issue. I tried this mod https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303537/ but it didn't do anything, I imagine because the cockpit has been updated since then. The new lighting can't be helping either. Edited April 25, 2020 by TLTeo

sirrah Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 As a M-2000 newcomer (using trial) and trying to learn the aircraft, I also noticed this. I mainly have trouble to find the correct autopilot buttons. However the dark cockpit is also the reason why I think the M-2000 will be my next purchase. sirrah Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) You see not being able to see dials and readings a positive? Ok, each to his own! There's no need for exclamation marks my friend. But to answer you: no I don't. Maybe the darkness effect is worse on your pc somehow, as I don't have an issue reading anything (apart from the autopilot buttons). Gamma set at 1.4, running OB and using a Reverb just like you. TLTeo Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I do fly on a monitor in a room with not the best lighting, but still, this is the only module I have issues with. Other jets with dark-colored cockpits or consoles like the Viper, Hornet or Tomcat all look fine.
jaguara5 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) The cockpit is dark but not to the point you can't read the dials (at least on a 27' 2560 X 1440 monitor and a 43 inch 4k monitor that i use, can't comment on vr). The labels on the side panels are harder to read. What you can do to increase the clarity. 1. Increase little the gamma settings in the game setup menu.. 2. use the mentioned mod, i have the brightest option selected , and yes, it makes a (not dramatic but noticeable) difference. 3. zoom little in.IRL the panels are not 1,5 m away from the eyepoint, as shown in the above posted screenshoot. If I saw what you are seeing in your attachment without yanking the gamma way up, I wouldn't be complaining. What gamma are you running there? The problem with raising the gamma is that it spoils the terrain which just looks washed out. I only see this issue with the Viggen and the Mirage. The Harrier to a smaller extent. jaguara5 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 if i remember correctly 2.3 . Good thing is that you can change the setting (at least in MP, must be the same in SP) while you are playing so you can find immediate a good compromise. 1.4 is way to low and not realistic either IMO. Something around 2 and little up should work but, that's also a matter of personal taste

If I set gamma to 2, everything becomes blindingly bright and totally unrealistic during daytime. That said, I running OB 2.5.6 which obviously is more brighter in general then stable version System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
TLTeo Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Yeah, my gamma is set to 1.4, going higher makes everything extremely bright.
john4pap Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I really like the contrast of the mirage's cockpit. I prefer it in comparison to other high dynamic range lighting cockpits. Adjust your gamma like others said, turn on cockpit lights and you'll be fine. It's a great looking cockpit and I much prefer it as it is. Then you may also consider drawing your curtains/turning off the lights too. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk

TLTeo Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Possibly, my PC is in a really badly lit part of the apartment (and facing windows which often makes my TrackIR freak out). Guess I'll have to get used to the higher Gamma.
flameoutme Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 This may or may not be the your issue, but there are very specific cockpit lighting options available in-cockpit on the right panel. Dial lights, flood lights etc. IN their default states they are too dark, but you can adjust them quite nicely.

jojo Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 With the new lighting in 2.5.6, a lot of people are turning their gamma down to 1.0 to get best results. I come back on this. I too feel it's little bit washed on my gaming computer screen and in the Rift S. But I know for a fact that my screen is too bright. I tuned down gamma to 1.8. But from time to time I record some short clips of my flights. And when watching on other screens (like my Galaxy phone, iPad and most of all, a laptop with screen calibrated with external sensor to deal with photography)...at 1.8 it's too dark, while at 2.0 it's perfect. I'm back at 2.0. So if you have to play at gamma 1.0, you should really consider tweaking your screen. Mirage fanatic !
