Dear Forum Members

I have little problem I deal with computer OCD where I need everything perfect ever install and everything or I think my computer is broken.

Other types of OCD that drives me crazy while building that I don't know how to get over. Like if I buy a samsung Chromebook for a side laptop I have to get a tablet and phone by samsung. Also when I get packages that are slightly opened during transit I think its damaged it has to be perfectly sealed.

How can I deal with this :(

It eventually wears off, I remember my first few computers, sometimes formatting them 4 or 5 times a day because I had an error whilst using the computer then after the first format the GFX driver / Sound card driver / cd rw driver came back with an error whilst installing, so I would format again and again. There was nothing wrong whatsoever, but I couldn't handle seeing errors. It must be over 5 years now since I last formatted my computer. So give it time and it will wear off.

As for sealed packages, unfortunately that doesn't wear off.

Keep calm, I try to have all my household tidy, everything at it's place, 90° and what not else...sigh..what a fight that was.

Since I am married, kids, larger household and not a single flat on my own I just gave up chasing the ultimate as hard as it is sometimes.

The only thing I really miss is my workshop order, since my youngest ones loves tools, keyboards and mice, plays with everything sharp and pointed, loves 220V and that sort of thing

all my top shelves are stuffed with the really dangerous and expensive stuff, I have to search for a specific screwdriver for an hour, cursing where he put it again, find a dozen things I didnt know that were missing but I let it be. Some things you cannot change the way you want it, let it be and free yourself.

The only thing I really keep in MY 90° order is my own PC, actually all PC's in the house, That's where I can live the ultimate goal and it's one of the few places/sceanrios where it also pays back.

Having all shoes in order, each at their place, doesnt really get you any further, not with 3 little Monsters during this Corona jail like living.

Have a beer or whatever brings you down and relax. Some disorder is unavoidable.

and to hit the nail right on spot....

I used to fix PC's back in the days where driver installs where not like they are today, any "?" or "!" in device manager drove me NUTS, I mean real really N U T S !

I did whatever it took to get it right on customer PC's, you dont hand it out if it ain't perfect and I rarely had to give in. Think of Mustek Scanners or any scanner that wasn't SCSI, cheap motherboard onboard devices etc... I could write a book about that crap.

I still dont like unperfect systems...but...if it doesnt hinder the use case of that PC, I learned to cut corners. Not save money or time, no, but to keep my head straight.

Computer OCD has it's benefits...you learn a lot when you "redo" it over and over again.

Now take your family and friends PC's into the game and you will wear it off over a few years.

That or you fall into a bad trap.

My Pet OCD regarding the computer was to try to hide as many cables as possible, so that it would look always neat and tidy ... tough it was a pain when I needed to upgrade the motherboard

This is an old photo (2014) as I'm now somewhat cured of this OCD:

Ha Ha Ha, that brings back a lot of memories BitMaster, the old motherboards with the jumpers on them. Years ago I worked in a shop selling computers and we had this tech guy who thought he was God. So one morning I got to work before anyone else and switched the jumpers on 2 display computers from pin 2 and 3 to pin 1 and 2 so the computers wouldn't start. Left him a few hours to try and fix them, then I said to him here let me have a look, I swapped the jumpers back without him noticing and fired them both up. The look on his face was priceless.

Yeah, they don't make them like they used to, thank god.

Are you experiencing the same OCD for other things too ? Perhaps not.

When you buy something from your hard earning/saving, or for any reason you love something too much, this OCD can happen. It happened to me in the past and still happens related to things which peaks my interests.

I think there is nothing wrong in it. Its just too much love and care for a specific thing.
