Cooter Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 If I wanted to get all planes, campaigns, terrian, etc. how much storage space would I need? I looked at the planes and such on DCS site, and everyone states 120G. I've been watching a lot of Grim Reaper vids, and the most recent I saw was that they say optimum is 100G SSD. So I'm confused.
Rudel_chw Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 You need about 200 GB ... but a 256 drive will quickly be too small, so go for at least a 512 GB drive. For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
AstonMartinDBS Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) If I wanted to get all planes, campaigns, terrian, etc. how much storage space would I need?My current Installation of DCS (current open beta via Steam), containing Modules: A-10C, F-16C, F/A-18C, FC3, UH-1H Terrains: PG, NTTR, Normandy uses 165 GB of disk storage. I would recommend a drive of at least 512 GB, maybe better 1 TB for future. If you want to get the whole DLC for DCS you'll need primarily a lot of money ;) Edited April 29, 2020 by AstonMartinDBS [Modules] A-10C, A-10C II, AH-64D, F-4E, F-14A/B, F-16C, F/A-18C, FC3, Ka-50, P-51D, UH-1H, CA, SC [Maps] PG, NTTR, Normandy, Sinai, Syria, TC [OS] Windows 11 Pro [PC] MSI Pro Z790-A, i9-13900K, 128 GB DDR5, RTX 4090 24 GB GDDR6X, 2 x SSD 990 PRO 2 TB (M.2), Corsair 5000D Airflow, HX1500i, H150i RGB Elite, Acer X28, TM HOTAS Warthog (Grip@WarBRD Base), MS SW FFB2, Thrustmaster TFRP, TrackIR 5 & TrackClip Pro [Checklists] A-10C, F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, Ka-50, UH-1H
Shahdoh Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) Take GR advice with a grain of salt... My install with about 80% of the available A/C, NTTR and Persian Gulf is up to 182 gig. That does not include optional liveries and such that are on another drive, totalling another 15 gig. Rudels advice for a 512 is more spot on for future growth. Edited April 29, 2020 by Shahdoh
Svsmokey Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 You'll need extra space for dowloading/unpacking updates. And more maps and modules are coming . I'd go for 240/256 gb MINIMUM . And no , this is not a "spending other peoples money" thing - i just ordered a 1tb for a new build that is only for DCS and supporting programs . (if they fix it) or a couple of other sims if they don't . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Cooter Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) I have a 1TB SSD, so how much space does each module take? Is it 120G/ module or is it 120G for all of it? I would definitely like to get a couple of more things. Edited April 29, 2020 by Cooter
Shahdoh Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Several examples given showing 165-185 gig for their whole install. 1Tb will be plenty provided you don't have to much else on the drive. keep 200+ gb free and you will be good to go.
DW2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 500Gb at least otherwise you will be kicking yourself later!!
Rudel_chw Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I have a 1TB SSD, so how much space does each module take? Is it 120G/ module or is it 120G for all of it? I'm too lazy to get the size of each Module, but I have all of them (except the GPS) plus all the Maps and almost all the Campaigns .. it uses 202 GB Plus my Saved Games/DCS folder uses another 7 GB, the User Liveries use 58 GB (and I have just a subset of the available liveries), my Missions Folder uses 9 GB ... there are other optional items, for example my User Mods Library uses 27 GB and my Documentation folder another 15 GB. Best regards.
