is it possible to lower seat in aircraft

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just breaking into VR and I noticed that to reach the collective in the helicopters I had to be almost leaning down to the floor to "grab" the controls.

I was just wondering if it was possible to "lower" the pilot position and in effect raise the the controls?

Has anyone come across this issue before??

Thanks

RCtrl+RShift+Numpad 2 to lower

RCtrl+RShift+Numpad 8 to raise obviously and Numpad / and * will move forward and backward. I have these mapped on Hotas.

Numpad / by itself without RCtrl and RShift will increase moving speed. Numpad * by itself will slow down moving speed.

Do you know if anyone has made a list of useful key presses for DCS? It would be handy until you become familiar with them or get HOTAS / VoiceAttack setup to reduce some of the load.

Have a look at this post of mine from a while back. It will let you adjust everything for your view in VR to your liking, and when you use the save command (at the end of the list), it will save that exact position as your VR center position for the aircraft you're in. From that point on, every time you start the game in that aircraft, the default view will be exactly as you like it. You can do the same thing for each of the other aircraft modules you own and they'll all be set exactly how you want them.

RAlt + Num0 does not work for me. Maybe it's because I reset position with Num5. It'd be nice to change that default position.

I map the view positions to HOTAS on A10C because many HUD symbols gets obscured often and have to move the seat up and down. And this is my favorite way to zoom in VR. VR zoom gets distorted.

What are you flying, in the A10c there's a switch on the left that raises and lowers the seat, I think it's just left of the gear switch.

thanks, I'm building up resilience to vr sickness at the moment but fully intend to fly helos and probably A-10 so varying height in all aircraft is vital.

Helos are amazing in VR, but if you can't hold a stable hover yet, keep that airsickness bag handy in the leg pocket of your flight suit. The only thing that has made me sick in VR is lurching all over the place in a UH-1 trying to land on an oil platform, when I was first learning to fly it.

Hi X-31

I have been struggling with an old joystick but just took delivery of a Warthog HOTAS so I am hoping things will ease up.

As a private Heli pilot in real life with ratings on the Huey ( Bell Jet Ranger), Loach ( Hughes 500) and several other piston types I thought jumping in to the DCS Helicopters would be a good path. Unfortunately with the VR on it presents another issue LoL

I am hoping once I get rudder pedals sorted this should be a giant step forward in the hovering area.

Thanks for the input:thumbup:

Well, given your real-world experience, the lurching all over the skies probably won't be the issue it was for me (lots of IRL time in helicopters, but not as a pilot). Then again, you would not be the first pilot to find that the muscle memory built in real flying may actually make desktop sim flying more difficult, especially with the very different feel of the stick, collective and pedals from real life.

When I took my Warthog grip and put it on a Virpil VPC WarBrd base, it made hovering helos much easier because it was much smoother. When I replaced the included cams with the "Cosmosim" centerless cams Virpil sells, it made another huge difference. And if you get pedals such as the MFG Crosswinds, they can be modded with a hydraulic damper in place of the centering spring for what I am told is a much more realistic feeling.

The one real challenge is a good collective (on a reasonable budget), though Virpil is developing one. Makes for a fun DIY project though. :)

Hi, well I thought I had a solution for the rudder as I had an old set with toe brakes but unfortunately they were game port type connector so I bought a converter to USB and they just don't seem to work as we'll as I expected so I'll be putting them up for sale on Ebay as they would be more suited to something like MS Flight sim etc. I just can't afford to go the route of buying another usb set right now.

I would love to go down a similar route as yourself but again the costs are prohibitive for me at the moment!!!

Thanks for the response
