The .303 loadout.

APIT = Armour Piercing rounds + De Wilde Incendiary + Tracer

BalT = Ball (solid metal slug) rounds + De Wilde Incendiary + Tracer

The API and Bal are the same as above with the tracer omitted.

The 20mm only have HEI/SAPI round options with no tracer, as per authentic WW2 loadout.

Thanks,  is there any circumstances in DCS where none AP would be preferable in the. 303?

I'm also interested - anyone know which is 'best' in various circumstances - against fighters, bombers, ground targets - AP or ball ammo?

PC specs:

Not tested specifically, though I would suggest that an Armour Piercing Incendiary round will do better damage than a straight slug, even if they are both of .303 calibre.

Soft bullets will splinter and create a larger area of damage that AP bullets won't. AP is great for hard targets like armor or an engine block but in soft surfaces they make a small, clean hole in-out.

Hello!!! Which of the armament options is the most suitable for aerial duel? Sometimes I shoot almost all my bullets at an FW-190 and it still flies!!!! I think I'm wrong with the type of ammunition. In fact, although I do not have a good aim, a hundred bullets against a fighter plane should still prevent it at least from continuing to fly!!😄

That's a loaded question, no pun intended, generally the default is fine. The key is where you are hitting the aircraft and from how far. It also never hurts to squirt out a couple rounds of 20mm as well.

Thanks for the reply NineLine! As I wrote, I don't have good aim (maybe, with a lot of practice ...), so when I shoot I use all the weapons (20mm and .303) and I always wonder how resistant the german fighters are. This is why I felt like I was getting the ammo mix wrong. But now I think I will have more practice.

Its possible, if you are firing too far away, that your cannon rounds are not hitting the bad buy, try closing up a little more, dont be too eager to start firing. And you can also submit a track and I or someone else can take a look and help out. There are somethings with the German aircraft that need to be tuned still, but for sure you can bring them down fairly easy if you hit the right spots.

Check this video out as well as I analyze a user video of a P-51 vs 190A.

The video is very interesting! Among other things, it demonstrates what I wrote: the FW-190 reduced to a set of holes continues to fly and only after the P-51 has almost run out of ammo, he finally dies. I think the same wouldn't have happened if the victim had been the P-51!

You need to make sure you are hitting at convergence... If you need help setting this up come fly on the TWC server and I will work with you on your gunnery...

Off line AI are easier kill even in an ACE setting online the kill is harder because of the unpredictable abilities of some pilots.   I would love to have the team really dig into the explosive power of the 20mm Hispano round seems weak, but I still get kills on our server with a full burst at convergence for at least a second (one-thousand-one).  Against live pilots tougher fight and have enjoy the battles but wing damage with two 20mm hitting at convergence should do more damage.  The question I would like to pose is the convergence at one POINT (ALL BULLETS) or is it a small cone... one thing that would be good is this possibility to choose...
