A salute is a hand signal, be it on the carrier or not (with exception of the firing salute of course) .

 

Out of all the videos i've watched, They always give the correct salute, even if the shooter is left, and that is more than clearly visible for the ground crew.

 

Out of all the planes i've watched rolling in real life, not one single pilot gave a left handed salute to its ground crew.

 

Out of all the military personel i've seen, not a single person gave a left handed salute, not even for visibility purposes.

Fun fact, apparently it's legitimate to salute with the left hand (in the British army at least) if you are using your right hand to do something else.

 

I'm not EVEN going there with that.:P

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
