iFoxRomeo Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 When in DCS the Sabre's droptanks are jettisoned, the part that looks like a pylon/bombrack remains at the aircraft. But that is not correct. When the outboard tanks are jettisoned only a few pins remain under the wings. The inboard tanks have a small ferry beam which remains attached to the wing. Currently in DCS the tanks get jettisoned, but the wannabe pylons remains attached to the wings. That is not correct. I finally found a videosequence that shows, that the tanks and "tankpylons" get jettisoned. The tank and its pylon are one unit(as seen in the video). The bombracks on the other hand remain attached to the wings after dropping the bombs. This problem is probably only cosmetic. At sealevel the sabre reaches the same topspeed with and without the tankpylons. After dropping the tanks there is no topspeed loss. Tiger-II Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) Why is that aircraft flying with asymmetric tanks? Bad release? Not sure I like how the tanks come off. Did they ever collide (IRL)? Great post! I hope they correct it. LeCuvier Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I read that the Sabres frequently failed to jettison drop tanks. Normal procedure in that case: abort mission (incl. wingman). iFoxRomeo Posted February 22, 2021 Author Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) Yes, bad release was one reason. Or unintended loss of one tank during flight. But there was also a shortage on fueltanks at some time, so that they indeed took off and flew with only one external fuel tank. edit: It depends on the fuel state, type of fuel tank and airspeed when you can release the fueltanks Fox Edited February 22, 2021 by iFoxRomeo Spoiler PC Specs: Ryzen 9 5900X, 3080ti, 64GB RAM, Oculus Quest 3
VampireNZ Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Good pickup! Easy to just assume the wing pylon stays on the wing and the tank is dropped. Generally a pylon is bolted to the wing permanently and just the store is released/punched off. Vampire
