Hi everyone, just thought we could compare and contrast a little on the hardware spec (and pos windows version) of PC's we have in our hopes to run DCS as well as the vids we watch (and drool) over..

Glowing AMRAAM, id be glad to hear your specs :bounce:

I am hoping to run it on my Dell XPS M1730..

2.4ghz t7700 duo core 2

4GB Ram

2x 256mb 8700GT in SLi (soon to be 2x 8800M 512mb GTX's)

Saitek X-45

Vista Premium 32bit

All the best!

Great idea , i'm going to buy a new pc hardware and thought (like many people)what spec will be best or enough good to run DCS.

As with every time this comes up . . .

If you want to buy a new PC for Black Shark, don't do it until you know when Black Shark is being released!

Lets you save more, lets more powerful hardware drop in price, and final betas give you a better idea of the kind of power that's acceptable.

There's still no release date, there's still no release date estimate. ED is aiming for some time in 2008. That is all.

I've got a 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM, and a 7950GT. Has handled the betas very well indeed so far, and it's now more than a year old.

But I haven't stress-tested it with campaign-mission sized battles yet, so things could all change.

At the current rate of Technological Advancement your System will most likely need another Upgrade when BS is released - rather get a system that will run Flaming Cliffs smoothly :)

Now you're just bragging :P

That's one hell of a beefy laptop. Can it actually be refitted with the uber graphics cards?

How open are the mobile Core 2 Duos to overclocking?

yeah the m1730 is the first module baased laptop that is completely upgradeable, the 2.8 ghz extreme chip us oc'able to 3.4, but there are talks of quad core uprades and all sorts lol, and the 8800's are available but there is a high demand at the mo.. its a good laptop, but u pay for it lol

fair enough, but its still good to get the info on everyones specs.. it makes me happy anyway..

My specs are; amd 3700, leadtek 6800gt, 1,5gig ram, etc...

I got around 15-20 fps in single player missions, with nearly everything maxed (except water and distance) at 1280*1024.

I am also planning an upgrade and I was waiting for Nvidia 9800 series. Unfortunately, 9800 series will be a major disappointment for me, judging what was released so far in terms of syntetic tests. Maybe an upgrade with a 9600gt SLI system would be better...

By the way, does FC support SLI or will BS support SLI?

An AMD 3700?

I hope you're planning to swap that for a Core 2 Duo . . .

As a rule of thumb I don't buy brand-shiny-new graphics cards - the price/performance ratio is too high and the software doesn't keep up with the new tech.

Waiting for the new card to come out, and then buying towards the top of the last generation has worked well for me :)

When the 9800 comes out I think I'll be having an 8800 or two to replay Crysis with DX10 . . . mmn . . .

Yes I am planning for a Core2 Duo, probably a Intel 8600...

I was planning to buy a 9800gt when it is released, but so far buying 2 8800gt or 2 9600 would be much cheaper and powerful then 9800 gt (gts or gtx)...

But I am not sure whether SLI would be the right choice...

Here's the very, very basics. Almost any mid-to high end CPU you could have bought in the past year should hack it. You'll probably be getting an 8x-series Nvidia GPU or ATI equivalent thereof before BS is out - but the 7x series will cut it too.

Just make certain you have 2Gb of RAM, if on XP, possibly more if on Vista. 2GB is necessary for comfortable running of BS (I don't really think you'd ever need more, at this point, but don't quote me on that). In fact, 2GB is a good idea for the larger LOMAC mission as well.

onboard VGA intel 3100 so far :D (half a year is pretty long time in the world of GPUs, next ati 4000 series would be an interesting choice...)

I'll wait for BS release date and get a best performance/price card :music_whistling:

It pays to wait for good things :smilewink:

im gonna need to build a mad rig i think lol

im also gonna reverse the axis on my x45's throttle and build a mount so its on its side next to me - so it can be used as a collective..

Don't be afraid guys. It won't be second Crysis IMHO.

They're in different league. I think Crysis needs strong video performance, OTOH DCS:BS sounds like more of a CPU killer. On my rig (P4 3,0GHz, 2GB RAM, x1950pro AGP) LOFC (Su-25T) gives about the same performance as Crysis, both on Med-High graphics settings. Obviously, Crysis is more demanding graphically, while LOFC would need even more CPU power than I have.

Which means that BS most likely won't be playable mostly because of the CPU.

rig in sig.

Only change to this will be if the 9800GX2 comes out before may (EVGA 90 day step up)

 You might be right. Is it worth then to invest in quad cpu regarding BS only? Let me put this other way. For PC only for BS - should I buy quad cpu? If so wich one?

Black Shark won't use all four cores - so no, it's not worth it.

Apparently the quad-core intels overclock even better than the dual-core CPUs, though . . .

I cant see why. Quad-core Intel's are just a pair of core-duo dies side-by-side.

And, just for grins, my system:

Athalon FX-74 (times two)

GF8800GTS G92 (times two)

Around 3gig ram (system has 8, but it only gets used when the system boots linux)

Full CH HOTAS setup

TrackIR 3

Full water cooling

Can't see why it wouldn't run faster, or can't see why itd' overclock better?

Black Shark doesn't use both cores of a Core 2 Duo - they work very well indeed with BS, but only thanks to the chip's raw speed.

As for overclocking . . . I dunno, Im only going on what Ive been told.

I'm intrigued as to how and why you all have such monster beast machines, too . . . . grin.
