I have been flight simming longer than a lot of you been alive. Pick a sim and I can probably go into my basement and get it out for you and post you a picture of it. Having said that I have been simming with this series since the Flanker days. Fast forward to the DCS beginnings and it was all about the A-10. I took a break and came back for the Hornet and I love it. I couldnt wait to fly the Viper either. I got the Harrier and what a ground pounder. In fact I have just about every module. The F-14 though always brings me back to her. I fell in love with the F-14 in 1986 when I saw Top Gun and at the airshow that summer at Hanscom AFB. I had F-14 pics and F-8 (my other favorite) pics in my room. I just cant stop flying the F-14. Its like the other moduels are the girls I left behind. Well done Heatblur, she is just golden. I cant wait for the A model.

Yes, me too! I think the best module to date.

I was skeptical and purchased the F/A-18. The F-14 being a bit older and steam gauges everywhere, but after the F-14B free trial, I was hooked totally and 100%. Haven't touched the 18 since.

I do really enjoy the Huey too, alot! But right now the F-14 is my go to.

Good day,

This module has been the absolute best simming experience I have ever had. And I can see why the crews loved her so.

Yeah, I regularly compare the Tomcat module to a religious experience.

Being a former backseater IRL (albeit not the cat), and figuring that most people prefer the front seat, I started as RIO and taught 3 other people up to speed on the station. Then I started playing in front and had a blast, although knowing how an NFO should operate I often get frustrated with Jester. Now my comfort level in the front seat is near as good as the back seat, and I enjoyed every minute!

Agreed.

I have all the modules outside of the unarmed ones. Amazing work on the Tomcat. I struggle, but keep coming back. Tanking seems to be a challenge in this one, only one tougher for me is the Viper. Have yet to explore the full potential of air to mud.

I'll byte. My first sim was A2FS1. I played it at ET-A school in Great Mistakes, so that was spring of 1981.

On a TSR80? I went TDY to Great Mistakes....once....and it was a freaking cold place to have basic training. I am very glad I had the heat of San Antonio to train troops as opposed to Great Lakes. Basic training sucks enough and to fight the cold with it.....my hats off to you.

Long time no speak my friend. How have you been?

With the Cat, no matter what I jump into, I fly for a few minutes and then I am right back in the Tomcat pit. Then with all my Tomcat books I can see clearly why the pilots loved it. When I get the A I may never go back to the B.....I'm full of it, I will be in both. :)

I havent touched A2G in the Tomcat, I use it for A2A only. I will explore it eventually but I love playing the fleet defender role.

Not bad at all, though the COVID was keeping me really busy for a time. Now I can once again give the cat the attention she deserves!

Hit me up if you want the ultimate Tomcat experience: flying with a RIO. That's where the fun really happens, not to mention it really helps with precision A2G.

Finally, you of all people know how excited I am for the A-6, even if it is AI only.

Indeed the Turkey is awesome! My favorite mod. Lately, I've been flying the Jug, and having a lot of fun with her. But I always come back to the Turkey!

Its funny you say that about the A-6, because you were the first person I thought of.

As far a MP goes, my installs are so heavily modded they would never pass an IC.

Apple ][+, though I have Trash-80 (model 1 and 3) time as well. Started on machines that make those look high-tech. I still remember 110 baud acoustic modems, paper tape (and punch cards), and 8 baud TTYs. My first lunar lander used a TTY for I/O.

Did boot/beep in San Diego, Great Mistakes for A, Orlando for Nuke, New York for prototype. That was my first two and a half years.

Of COURSE they closed the nice bases and left the darkest part of the rectal sphincter of the Navy as the sole survivor of the three; probably because nobody wanted it. Fortunately that was after my time.

Wow, Dave, never thought I'd see you in here! So I take it you are done with SFP1/WoV? :-D

Yep I have been done with the SF series for sometime. DCS takes care of my combat simming itch now. Were you at the CombatAce forums?

Given that the subject came up about chunking hours into the Tomcat, I figured this was related. Also, hi, Dave. I just tried the Tomcat in VR for the first time and holy Mother of God, Heatblur knocked it out of the park. I was impressed with TrackIR before. In VR, there is no comparison. I'm probably going to be stuck in the virtual pit for the next month or so; if no one hears from me, send an ambulance...or maybe a hearse...

Well duh....it always works with the chicks and you must wear a leather jacket with a Hawaiian shirt under. Aviator glasses are absolutely mandatory. :D

Man the Turkey is a BEAST did a mission yesterday on our server running "Crack the Channel" with a human RIO

we started from a landbase with 2x AIM-9M, 1x AIM-7MH, 4x GBU-16 and one TGP we flew towards Queshm Island to bomb some Tanks.

My RIO told me that there is a Radar Contact, no IFF and we were still loaded with bombs. fortunatly it was just a freaking boat he locked up :-D

but the relief was short as AWACS and RWR screamed: "mig-23 from our 10o´clock". so i pulled hard left, full burner into them. for whatever reason both got defensive after i fired my one and only AIM-7---> missed. after that we got merged, and a short dogfight erupted, man the cat just doesnt care that she is loaded with bombs and i was able to shot down both with AIM-9´s, after both of them crashed in the gulf, no chutes, we continued our bombing mission. after the 3rd bomb drop the AWACS called "slow movers probably choppers". we dropped our last bomb on a BMP and headed for the choppers. my RIO found them and locked them up, no AA-Missiles left, gunned both of them down and stayed low afterwards because we got spiked by SAM´s. we had enough fuel left to fly to our land base but decided to divert to the carrier. got waved off on the first try and catch a 3 wire on the second. got fueled and loaded up with mk82´s and carpet bombed a convoy. after that our playtime was over. we were soaked with sweat. but it was a good mission for us and a lot of fun.

Man the Turkey is a BEAST

That sums up my feelings on this module in more ways that one.

Keep AoA in check in a rate fight? BEAST

Pull extra AoA to cut a tight corner? BEAST

Depart controlled flight? recovering is a BEAST

Haul four one-ton bombs along at 45,000ft and 1.5M? BEAST

A little high over the wires and use DLC to plant it into the deck? BEAST (Jester has some fun comments on those landings)

In one mission I made I took a 65nm shot on a MiG-31, hit 2.15M diving on a Tu-22, pulled 9.8G pulling out of that dive, hit 1,035KCAS at the bottom of the dive (engines did NOT like that), limped back to the ship sipping 3800pph at 0.74M, and landed in ~3/4mi vis. Love this plane/module.
