GatorNutz Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 I have a new Origin Neuron with 64GB RAM and a GTX 2080 Super. DCS has been working beautifully for the last three weeks and I was getting 100+ FPS in Syria yesterday (DCS was using almost 30GB of RAM). Now, today, I am lucky to get 20FPS and MP won't work at all. I've done benchmarking with multiple tools and they all show the hardware is fine. Nothing has changed on my system (hardware or software). For some reason, DCS is only grabbing 8GB of RAM, which seems to be the culprit (it was using much more before something changed). I uninstalled DCS, deleted all folders, reinstalled, and it's still not working correctly. MS2020 sim works just fine on high settings.
Flappie Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Hi. Can you please attach your latest dcs.log file? ---
GatorNutz Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 Hi. Can you please attach your latest dcs.log file? Thanks so much for helping! I literally purchased this expensive PC solely for DCS. Log attached.dcs.log
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I don't see significant errors in your log file. I think your pagefile is quite low (9GB) compared to your physical RAM (64GB), but that's all. Have you customized your Windows virtual memory (pagefile) settings? If you have, you should set it to auto and try if that's any better in DCS. I know you have an insane amount of RAM, but if you don't let Windows handle its pagefile, you can have trouble with DCS. Several users have recently solved their performance issues by preventing their antivirus to inspect their DCS game files. For instance, Malwarebytes antivirus (MBAM) is known to cause performance issues with DCS. In the most recent Windows update (2004), some users needed to disable the Windows GPU scheduling as well, but your log says your Windows version is 1909. ---
GatorNutz Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 Update: Origin PC support ran diagnostics on my PC and everything (hardware wise) is perfectly fine. They said that it looks like DCS is throttled to a max of 6GB of RAM and to work with ED to figure it out. Also, I recently found out that another user is having the same issue, so it seems to be a DCS related problem.
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Have you checked your Windows virtual memory (pagefile) settings? It can help, you know. Here's a fresh example. ---
GatorNutz Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 Have you checked your Windows virtual memory (pagefile) settings? It can help, you know. Here's a fresh example. I did see that my pagefile for the D drive was not set, so I enabled it, but I am using "Auto Manage". Now pagefile is enabled using "auto" for both of my M.2 drives.
GatorNutz Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 Have you checked your Windows virtual memory (pagefile) settings? It can help, you know. Here's a fresh example. I set my pagefile to 32GB, but I'm still having the same issue.
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 OK. Let's suppose memory is not the source of the problem. I've read some recent cases of FPS capping in DCS. Can you try the following solutions? a/ Press Alt+Enter once ingame. b/ Disable V-sync. c/ Open D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Config\graphics.lua file, and check "maxfps" equals 180 (DCS default value). d/ If you are or have been an HELIOS user, please attach your C:\User\your_name\DCS.openbeta\Scripts\Export.lua file (it can mess with FPS). e/ If you have already used a WinWing HOTAS on your rig, same thing: please attach your C:\User\your_name\DCS.openbeta\Scripts\Export.lua file (as strange as it may sound, it can also mess with FPS). f/ Try this with your NVIDIA settings. ---
GatorNutz Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 Thank you so much for trying to help! maxfps = 180 (confirmed) Export.lua is attached (from ProgramFiles\ED\DCS\Scripts, not C\User\SavedGames) I have also attached a screenshot of the full FPS info within DCS. Thanks again!Export.lua

I tried that setting in the step f/ but with no luck. Still stuck at 20 FPS in SP.
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I've just loaded the same insant action mission and here's a comparison of what we get: I don't see much difference, apart from "Simulation" (192.0 for you, 5.1 for me) but I have no idea what it means. ---
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Can you try activating the Windows Game bar (Win + G) ingame to see if your FPS get any better? It happened to some user. Also, take a look at this thread. ---
Flappie Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Oh, I forgot: you told me nothing had changed on our PC, but have you checked the Windows Update history? Settings > Update and security > View update history Can you make a screenshot of this list showing what happened this last week? ---

Settings > Update and security > View update history Can you make a screenshot of this list showing what happened this last week? BIGNEWY on Discord (ED) told me to update to Windows latest version (2004), which I did today. still no improvement. Unfortunately, it must have erased all of the previous update history, because that is the only one shown. I will try the Game Bar. Thanks so much!

Taz1004 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Try pressing alt+enter Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
GatorNutz Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 Try pressing alt+enter Thanks for the response. I tried that...didn't make a difference. For some reason, DCS won't use more than 6GB of RAM, when 64GB is available.

Settings > Update and security > View update history Can you make a screenshot of this list showing what happened this last week? Update: I uninstalled DCS, removed all folders related to DCS, then cleaned my registry, then re-installed. Still no joy. The game still refuses to use more than 6GB of RAM, when 64GB of RAM is available to use.
Flappie Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) I've just done a quick test in Syria map. I get 60 FPS (V-sync on) and my game uses about 8 GB of memory (I have 32 GB of RAM). I don't think your problem is tied to memory. I'd like to rule out any influence from external programs. Can you please launch your game in Windows safe mode? Here's how to do it: Press Windows key, type "msconfig" and press Enter. In the General tab, tick "Diagnostic startup" and click "Apply" (you will see some other boxes get ticked, it's OK). Click OK and choose to restart your computer. Log into Windows as usual, then launch DCS. You will get several error messages since your PC network is disabled. Just click OK until you see DCS main menu. Fly the Su-25T in an instant action mission and watch your FPS counter. Once you're done with testing, just open "msconfig", tick "Normal startup", click OK and restart your system, and everything will be back to normal. Edited August 27, 2020 by Flappie ---

I did this and I was getting 100FPS (no vsycn, not full screen, no MSAA). So I set it to vsync ON, full screen ON, and MSAA x2 and I was still getting 90 FPS. I also noticed it was using 9GB of RAM (it never went above 6GB before). So, how can I figure out what is causing this?? THANK YOU SOO MUCH! I've been so helpless the last two days...nothing has worked. Which is very frustrating for someone in IT.
Flappie Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 OK, great! This means you have an external process messing around. Next step: we need a file listing all your running processes. Here's how to do it. Please attach the resulting text file. ---

Flappie Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 You're welcome. :) Here's a prettier and more handy version of your list. First, I'll eliminate Windows services from the list (green color), and then we'll see what's left. ---
