Wolf8312 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 My Vive had an accident and got cracked so I haven't played VR for a long time, and am mulling an upgrade to the index. Only thing is it would mainly be for DCS and flightsims, but I kinda got bored with DCS as the performance never allowed me to have the full single player experience (especially WW2 campaigns) without poor performance. The campaigns seem so great that playing them before the technology is ready almost seems as if it will spoil the surprise really! So I don't really think theres any rush to upgrade until there are some genuine breakthroughs as flying my own missions against that AI got very old in the end. I would still do it, but I'm not sure its worth the expense right now, as its not as if I will be as blown away as I once was, though I do really miss it sometimes... Don't have much confidence that a new GPU will change matters much either... So did the performance upgrades ever pan out, or has the AI (especially german fighter AI was basically unplayable) been improved recently improving the SP experience so I can make better missions? There's only so long one can fight that AI in limited engagements before wishing for something more (MP or a real SP campaign against a challenging AI). ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
Taz1004 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I don't know how long ago was "long time" but in short, VR still is fps hog. Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
Harlikwin Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 It depends. With a high end rig you can get 90fps offline if you turn stuff down.... My rig, OC'ed I see 45-50fps regularly online all the way up to 75fps. Seldom do I see less. And I use "medium" gfx settings. Its not perfect, but it works. Next upgrades 3090, and then further OC/intel 11 series I guess. But its a race between more Ghz and ED actually upgrading/de-spaghetting DCS. For reference, pretty much any other title is 90fps without issue. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
stormrider Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 From 2.5.5 to 2.5.6 DCS VR performance dropped substantially over the many borked updates. Banned by cunts.
Rogue Trooper Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I have found my peace with 45 Hz fixed. VR fps can get worse but eventually it will get better. 3 dimensional life sized worlds for me from now on. VR is well past its starting point and will only get better, but you have to love the gains more than the loses. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.
eaglecash867 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 From 2.5.5 to 2.5.6 DCS VR performance dropped substantially over the many borked updates. Yup. It always seems to be the even numbered builds that kill performance. 2.5.5 was great, and 2.5.4 before it was terrible. So, we might have to wait for 2.5.7 for things to get good again.
