Take any military aviation magazine and usually, there is a lost airplanes report page. It is quite normal for a big military force such as American, that flies so many hours, to loose airplanes to accidents. My wild guess 0.1% - 0.2% loss a year per fleet is quite normal. Therefore, I don’t see anything unusual in what is happening here.

yea seriously, its only april, and there has been quite a lot of accidents.

I just read an A-10 made an emergency landing March 25 at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. The A-10 touched down with its landing gear in the up position after declaring an in-flight emergency. The pilot was not harmed.

Yeah I saw these. Funny thing that someone has put the wheel chocks even on this plane, like it's going to move somewhere :D The cannon looks a bit disassembled though..

Poor Hoggy :D

LOL what with cannon oO :D

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I thought rear fins got dameged during landing but then again if it's a AIM-9 pilot would probably jettison all ammo prior landing.

He landed wheels up because the cannon was on the fritz (as visible... :P), the nose gear bay is probably a lot worse, so wise not to extend the wheels, otherwise cartwheeling, loss of directional control, and such bad things. I love the scraped tail fins, like a plastic model which is sanded off too much :P

I doubt we'll get any further clarification on this mishap, I remember B-2 crash in Guam and noone made a statement so far on what actually happened there!

You can not eject missiles like the AIM-9, the rails do not have the capability.

Vekkinho Is that a AIM-9 in the first photo?!

I think is a ACMI pod like Pilotaso said

I think they put chock on because the A-10 weels (AFAIK) can still rotate while landing gear is retracted so if the aircraft has to land like this one did, it is easier on the airframe. Maybe if the wind where to pick up the aircraft could move?

I wander if the damage happen before or after landing? Looks like the Pave Penny pod on the nose did not get damage.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

NP. By the way I should say, you can not jettison the AIM-9 AFAIK. I don't load weapons and I don't think you can jettison them but I have no prove.

The B-1 didn't crash, it had a ground emergency. We lose jets every once in a while throughtout the A.F., it is an inherently dangerous job (obviously). Some of the jets are really showing their age; thankfully we have good a maintenance program to keep em running. Some of the 38's I fly are 1961 tails! They are almost as old as my dad lol. Anyways, everyday just at Laughlin we have multiple in flight emergencies between the T-38s, T-1s, and T-6s (which are brand new by the way). So when you fly that many hours everyday, chances are something will break or go wrong!

I love my job :pilotfly:
