Caldera Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) Well.... I got onto a multiplayer server tonight for the first time. I fired one Maverick and the screen went gray and pretty much stayed that way. WHot became totally grey and BHot became totally black. The mission was at sunrise. Same deal as before, I could fiddle with it make very little work especially at the zoomed levels that I needed to be at. I was having a great time until then. I ended up just RTB. I thought it was a great server, but now I can't find it again after I took care of the fxo folder. 3 hours ago, SmirkingGerbil said: No sir, it isn't normal. I would be hesitant to recommend any video settings as I am a noob, and just looking at mine - they are quite a bit different. A mix of mostly high/ultra with some other settings tweaked in NVIDA Control panel like VSync (Fast) for the game, but off in DCS itself. There are many more experts around here that can advise you on that. My system is kind of Frankenstein so I would be worried I would steer you wrong. Pointy end hurt! Fire burn!! I got zero response any ways except for yourself. Well... I am not sure what happened exactly. But what you said above got me to thinking. I went into the NVidia control panel and returned everything to default in the Global Settings tab. Those settings had been a "fusion" of the advice I had gotten from who knows where at this point. In the Program Settings tab I set it up so that DCS was selected there. It is the only program selected. Then I stopped dicking with it just to test. So far I have had zero issues (JYNX!!!). The only thing that I can think of is that DCS wants Plain Jane but I was forcing Hot Hilda upon it and that was a bad fit. Caldera 1

I do try to not end up with many overrides in NVIDA panel settings, but VSync is one of those things that can cause issues in DCS. I only went with "Fast" as it seems to be a good compromise depending on how high you set your resolution in-game. That said (as I have done this rodeo many times with DCS since 2012 ish) - the next update, for us Beta folks, may cause the issues again for some other reason. Such is the fate of Beta, but I don't bemoan it too much as this is the life we choose in Beta. Since last update I have had to modify by autoexec.cfg due to device scanning stutter, and moved my track-ir to a dedicated port as when I fire missiles etc. Stutter was through the roof.
