premo256 Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Hi, which GPU architecture is better ? I have MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z and when playing in VR on HTC Vive Cosmos on Syria map and in little bit higher settings, I have 11-30FPS. I have Intel i7 7700K CPU and 32GB RAM, but I am planning an upgrade to Ryzen 5900X. Would you recommend to upgrade to RTX 3080 or to wait for 6800XT ? Thanks.
Svsmokey Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 You will be waiting for a 3080 too :) I have decided on a 6800xt , which offers comparable performance to the 3080 , and 16gb vram , even though i'm running Intel . 5900x and 6800xt also offers the possibility of cpu directly accessing gpu vram , offering the potential for a significant performance boost . Skatezilla said this is done via Windows drivers , which i interpret as needing no developer support . Finally , Aurelius on these forums appears mightily impressed with RDNA2 performance in DCS VR , although he is limited as to what he can say due to NDA . 2 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Greekbull Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Man AMD won me over with the 5950X...I'll be trying to grab one on Thursday if I'm able to. I have an entire new PC ready to go for it just waiting with a X570 Aorus Master Mobo, 64gb of 3600 RAM, 1000W PSU etc...but I think I am going to grab an EVGA 3090 FTW3 for it(found one I will have on Friday)...AMD has been a bit lacking in their driver support and I just don't trust them on the GPU side yet with my primary rig... I'm using a 6700k and 1080ti, skipped the 2000 series. Was planning on a 3080/3080ti, but when I heard the 6000s were supposed to have 16gb of VRAM it made me pause. I'm really looking forward to more information! 1 Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
Lurker Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Please consider that the Syria map is terribly unoptimized. It runs really poorly and most of that is to do with the CPU. I too will most probably make the switch to the 6800XT, I don't care that much about RayTracing and it looks like it already does great in DCS VR according to some very anecdotal evidence. However, I don't expect miracles in FPS, what I do hope for is a clearer image with the Rift S with less ghosting, and a little bit more eyecandy. Since Im currently using a RTX2060 I think that this will be possible. (Probably not on the Syria map though) Specs: Win10, i5-13600KF, 32GB DDR4 RAM 3200XMP, 1 TB M2 NVMe SSD, KFA2 RTX3090, VR G2 Headset, Warthog Throttle+Saitek Pedals+MSFFB2 Joystick.
Scendore Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 You may want to wait on getting any Card at the moment. AMD has released their benchmarks not 3rd party. I do hope it gives Nvidia a hard time. It's good for us end users. Also consider Nvidia has always responded to AMD by coming out with Tis and Supers in the last go. There is a reason Nvidia blew off their next cards 3080 and such with larger memory. 1

You're right , but that won't increase the the vram , a major concern of mine . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Eaglewings Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 I have waited out the Nvidia 2000 series for the 3000 series for my VR gpu upgrade, now the AMD RX 6800 is really getting my attention with the 16g Vram which looks like a big deal in vr. I had the 3070 in mind earlier but seems like the spec of 3070 will make you want to upgrade again in not too distant future. All the youtube tech guys talking about these graphic cards on youtube scarcely put vritual reality in their performance rating analysis so I am still waiting to see Vr performance data on the AMD cards. My current gtx 1060 is no longer keeping up in dcs 2.5.6. Lurker Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 VR is a huge resource hog, no doubt about it. In DCS in particular. I have very little problems with VR in other sims/games running a RTX2060, however it just doesn't cut it in DCS. It is still possible to fly and even enjoy the sim, however with most graphical options set to medium or low. From a pure performance/cost analysis, unless Nvidia drops prices considerably (and ups availability) then the 6800XT is probably the best card in this generation for DCS: World. There is a small caveat, the cards still have to get to market, and so far we've only seen benchmarks from AMD and a few leaked from outside sources, however I remain convinced that this card is the best bang for buck right now, considering gaming at 4K or VR. (Even the 6800 will probably be good enough, considering it's also 16GB of VRAM) If you are however still gaming at 1080p and 2d, then even the midrange RTX2060 from the last generation of cards is more than enough to get great picture quality with decent framerates in DCS World. (All of the above assumes mid to high range components in your PC System) 1 Specs: Win10, i5-13600KF, 32GB DDR4 RAM 3200XMP, 1 TB M2 NVMe SSD, KFA2 RTX3090, VR G2 Headset, Warthog Throttle+Saitek Pedals+MSFFB2 Joystick.
