Frostie Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Yes, they are. All you need is a good pilot in the MiG-29A in LO; I guess you've just never run into such situations 'cause hey ... who flies 29A's in Lo anyway, right? ;) Yes, but you also need a good pilot in the F-15 to prove your theory.:P 1 "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Alexrey Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Moan moan! Dudes I think this game is good enough hey. But anyway, so from what I've read it seems as though the best fighter is between the MiG-29S and the F-15C. And why where you guys comparing the MiG-31 radar to others if you can't fly it?
Pilotasso Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I have been experimenting Su-27 tactics online and I will post a new thread about it. .
GGTharos Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Because someone requested that it be representedon the fictional Radar Monster scale ;) Moan moan! Dudes I think this game is good enough hey. Alexrey Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Hey guys I tried out the F-15C for the first time tonight and was amazed that it could carry 8 AIM-120Cs and extra fuel! :O Is this realistic? Plus it's got an awesome radar! Surely this makes it the best bird in the sky then and would totally dominate the MiG-29S ? One thing I did have trouble with though is trying to find out if I was targeting my teammates or not. What is displayed on my HUD if I have targeted a teammate, and do I have to have the radar on for IFF to work like the Russian birds?
GGTharos Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 And? ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Alexrey Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Pressed the post button by mistake. :O But I've edited it now. :)

Alexrey Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 That was helpful, thanks. :) So back to the topic, am I right in saying that the Su-27 and Su-33 come in 3rd and 4th place? Who comes in 1st and 2nd place between the MiG-29S and F-15C?

Who comes in 1st and 2nd place between the MiG-29S and F-15C? Of course this is just a matter of opinion, but all planes have their strengths and weaknesses, here's a few. It's a matter how you exploit their strengths. F-15 Good: Radar, Range, HUD Bad: AIM120 performance SU27 Good: Range, Maneuverability, Datalink, R27ETs Bad: No active radar missiles SU33 Good: 12 Hardpoints, Carrier Ops, Range, Datalink, R27ETs Bad: No active radar missiles, Poor Maneuverability MiG29 Good: High cruise speed, Datalink, R27ETs/R77s Bad: Weak radar, Short range, 7 Hardpoints with Fuel
Alexrey Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 I really love the Su-27, but I'm really scared that the enemy will always easily unlock my R-27ERs. But then again I don't actually know any unlocking maneuvers except to put the bandit on your 3/9 line. Is it very easy for the bandit to unlock my R-27ERs? Because that's the only reason I fly the MiG-29 right now, even though it can only carry 6 missiles. :(
Pilotasso Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 You have to hold from firing untill 25km wich IMHO is the ideal range(most ppl cant resist the temptation to fire before that). Radar lock wont be so easely broken and if the target runs away you can still catch him. R-27ER is a chase monster. .
Alexrey Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 I've been trying out the Su-27's R-27ER missiles in the fast battle planner but I just don't have the skill to maintain a lock AND evade an incoming missile. But when using the F-15C I won almost every time even though the AIM-120C has a shorter range... so I think I'm gonna try the F-15C for a while. I would carry on using the MiG-29S, but I hate its high fuel consumption and lack of weapon points. :( Does anyone know how much shorter the range of the AIM-120C is compared to the R-27ER in LOFC? And does the AIM-7 have a longer range than the AIM-120C?
UWBuRn Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I would carry on using the MiG-29S, but I hate its high fuel consumption and lack of weapon points. :( MiG-29 has the lower fuel consumption between russian fighters, but also it has small fuel tank. If you wanna try to stick with the MiG, climb at 6000m, you can already cruise (and fight) very well at that altitude. For max economy go at 120000, just above the conning layer: at that altitude you can travel very far. And use the afterburner ONLY when you realy need it, i.e in combat. For take off and climbing just limit yourself to military. ;)

And does the AIM-7 have a longer range than the AIM-120C? been playing LOMAC ever since it was released and I fly all planes. Only recently I understood fully the advantages of each of the flankers radar modes. (even opened a thread about it) Use ILV when in RWS mode for best bang for the buck or targets that change aspect frequently. Use medium PRF's for targets running away and hi PRF's for aproaching targets. You can set these modes using ALT-I keys followed by RWIN+I (one for toggle TWS/RWS and the other to set radar PRF). It still wont be perfect but unlike the F-15, Su-27's and mig-29's radars are very resistant to notch at close ranges. .
Boberro Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Last time I fly Su-33 with EMs. I don't know but I feel more secure with EMs than ERs. i also learned radars modes, often use HI rare PRF, I didn't feel it (PRF) helped me even one time, maybe I am wrong, dunno. I like fly above 6 or 12 km, that is good altitude for EMs :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Alexrey Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 But TWS mode is usually useless because everyone has their jammers on 90% the time. What are the advantages of using the radar properly? Does it decrease the chances of them notching you? BTW I'm still not too sure how to do a HOJ shot. I never know when to fire. Someone told me that he used basic trigonometry to work out the distance of the bandit from him, is this how you'd do it?

He's using basic diarrhea of the mouth. :music_whistling: The russian RWR has a power scale that you can use to estimate range. It's not perfect because sources vary in their power output. But with a little experience it's quite useful. The F-15 does not have a range indication per se- but the spike's positions on the display can be interpreted with a decent idea about range as well. Many even have a mod that places a circle on the RWR marking a particular distance figure. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Actually, I'm using good old rules of thumb based on trig, and it works rather well ... including on targets who have their radar off.
