Oculus Link out of Beta - Significant improvement for DCS using Quest 2!

you're doing everything right, the flashing seems a little concerning. Have you tried another USB cable or another USB port on your computer? Also have you done the Bitrate test on the cable?

RE the 1.7 i went to have another glance, and yes the max output res is to native quest res at all hz settings, it just says 1.7 at the top of the slider on 90hz instead of 1.5 at 72hz and 1.6 at 80hz though im not sure of what this slider is referring to exactly.. i need to do a little more digging as its doing something different to what the debug tool does of which i was previously used to.

Yes I did the bitrate test and it was fine. The cable works absolutely fine, it's just that initial startup. It's not that big of a deal, just a minor annoyance having to start it twice, I can live with it until the official cable arrives and I'll see it that's any different. Cheers.

Alpine,

I had a similar issue. I noticed that I use the desktop shortcut (standalone DCS) after link is enabled, it works first time. If I click on DCS World within Oculus Home, it starts up and closes.

Thanks, I'll try that. But doesn't that mean you're starting Oculus Home first to enable the Link cable and not just clicking on DCS and have that start Oculus Home automatically?

And, yes, even with my Rift S, if I clicked on DCS within Oculus Home, it never starts. I don't know why. That's why I use the just click on DCS and let it start Oculus Home method.

Well it looks like I'm gonna join the Quest 2 camp soon. Ordered one today as one of my kids wants it for Christmas, and the price is reasonable. Looking forward to checking it out.

I got the 256GB one since my kid will likely just play Oculus exclusive games, but if you are planning to use it mostly with the PC then 64GB is plenty.

I’m very familiar with Vive, Rift, and Index but zero experience with the Quest line. Quest 2 has relatively high resolution and will likely be somewhat demanding to drive, probably more than the Index but again not sure since the output bandwidth will also be limited to USB 3.2 gen 1 speed (5 Gbps). I think your GPU might be fine but consider upgrade the CPU especially for DCS.

There are also some annoying issues with Oculus Quest that you should keep in mind.

1. Facebook account is required.

2. Only one account is allowed per headset, kind of similar to cellphone or iPad.

What are the USB requirements? This motherboard has USB 3.0 Etron

I'm running DCS with the v-sync locked at 60. Holding that most of the time in the air. On the carrier deck 45-55+

Have the F-14, F-18, M-2000, F-86, Mig-21, Harrier, Spitfire, Mi-8 and a few others

Does the quest support steamvr or do all games have to run on the oculus runtime? Thinking about other vr games my kids bought on steam that we currently play on rift s in steamvr

I believe you'll need the link cable for PC/Steam capability.

Not really. The Quest games are about 4-6 GB each. So you can do the math for the required space. The rule of thumb is that if you do not want to save all possible games you own (like 20+) to it and movies and alike in it, then 64 GB model is plenty. The 256 GB model is nothing more than extra space, otherwise identical.

For those that are interested in the standalone features and games of Quest 2, I imagine newer games that will be designed for it will have higher details and likely carry larger footprints as well. So for those they might consider the 256 GB version to be safe and have something to grow into.

For primarily using as a PC-VR headset with Link, then obviously the onboard storage is not that important.

I have the original Quest 64 GB version, and never came close to using it's storage capacity - but I never really got into many Quest games either.

I've installed this one:

With it's optional SATA power connected the Quest 2 stays at 80% charge indefinitely :)

Just a tip for those who may not know. After launching DCS, Alt+Tab so that Oculus Home is the window of focus on your desktop, then RCtrl+NumberPad1 to disable ASW. Remember to then Alt+Tab back to your DCS window.

I find this gives me quite a few more FPS and eliminates any jerky head movement inside the cockpit.

You can tell whether ASW is disabled by using F3 to watch an external fly by shot of your aircraft. If your aircraft looks likes it's ghosting and stuttering then ASW is probably still enabled. If it's solid and flying smoothly through the shot ASW is disabled. You can also Ctrl+Pause/Break to bring up your FPS on screen to check whether you're getting more FPS.

I never knew that! Very good to know.. however no numpad on my keyboard? Any other way around that?

EDIT: scratch that, you can do it from the oculus debug tool. For some reason last version it wouldnt let me but latest update it does. Also re ASW, if you're not hitting at or above the refresh rate of the oculus, beit 72,80 or 90 then it will lock 50% of that framerate as its designed to. With it off you will obsiouly see a higher frame rate than the locked 50%. You're still pushing what you were before its just doing its thing to keep it smooth when youre not at or above native refresh. However, some prefer it off so as long as its not giving you any motion sickness and the perception is smooth, there is no harm in trying it out! As im about to 🙂

Just a small update on the link cable. My official Oculus Link cable has arrived and it's a little thinner, less stiff and more flexible than the non official one I was using, so there's some comfort gains there. When I'm using it for DCS I feel less tugging on the back of my head. This is obviously subjective to the individual and there may be people using non official cables that are just as thin and flexible as the official one.

I also did a connection speed test; my non official one was getting 1.8Gbps and the official one is getting 1.9Gbps, which seems pretty par for the course doing a quick Google search on other people's results. Some people achieve faster, which is probably more down to how good your system is rather than the cable, it seems. In any case, I seem to be getting a slightly faster connection with the official cable. Every little bit helps!

Thanks for "life hacking" ASW... 👍

+ 3-5 fps is always good. And  less stuttering.

Second day I use Oculus Quest 2...

My unofficial cable shows speed 2.5Gbps.... If I measured the speed correctly 🤔
