Which CPU/GPU with which G2/Q2 to get the best VR so far.

SAM adds about 2 to 5% depending upon some preset parameters. (On average, it is about 2.4%.) In beta DCS as of tonight, the RX 6900 XT is 2.3% faster in VR with the G2 than the 3090. Granted, not much, but then the 6900 XT is likely to be $700 or so cheaper! Even if Nvidia improves their drivers and the 3090 pulls ahead by say, 4%, that is 4% for $700.

Where are you getting these results? If its your own testing can you post more detailed benchmark?

@Aurelius

Good to see that AMDs lower interface bandwidth doesn't really has an impact on DCS VR. At least with the 6900XT.

I saw a lot of reviews where the 3080 outerperforms the 6800XT in 4K while it's the other way round in 1080p. People were reasoning that this has to do with the interface bandwidth (256 vs 384). Since there are no reviews regarding DCS especially in VR I had my doubts as well.

I am really curious how the 6800XT handles DCS compared to the 3080 since they are on nearly the same price tag. If the results are similar to your comparison (3090 vs 6900XT) I would go AMD all the way (10 vs 16GB VRAM). And your test shows, that there is hope for Amd ;)

With that in mind your cost differential is largely inaccurate and assumes the user is already on AMD, as many/most(?) gamers today are on Intel. That means to get the full benefits of the 6900xt want would have to spend another what 1000USD on a new motherboard and cpu and maybe ram as well... My 0.02$

I have a bit of a dilemma as I have a brand new 3080 sat in its box here after arriving yesterday (ordered it in Sept) I did try to buy a 6800xt last week but had no luck. Hopefully my G2 will arrive next week. After seeing the reviews of the 6800xt I can see in 4k in some games that the 3800 seems to better it however I haven't seen any 6800xt DCS v 3080 comparisons yet. I am really torn between just opening this 3080 or trying again this week to pick up an AIB 6800xt.

I managed to buy this Zotac 3080 for £680. Infact it was the Trinity I ordered and the company I bought it from actually upgraded me to the OC version that is retailing currently at £850 so I could actually sell this to someone for the retail price and cover the additional price of the AMD AIB models. I am running a 3700x and 32gb ram so suspect I am not going to see a massive difference between any of them?

1) You need not buy a 5800X, 5900X or 5950X. Get a 5600X unless you are basing your decision on more than just DCS and need >=10 cores to match the 10900K of course.

2) B550 motherboards are as little as £80. Personally I prefer the "mid / premium" ones at £180. No need to pay £400-500 for fancy X570 boards unless you want to.

3) Sell your Z490 and 10900K: still worth quite a lot to many people.

It is not a $1000 upgrade. Much less. Just apply appropriate man maths. hehhee heh!

I don't think AMD GPU's are going to top Nvidia just yet based on all I have read. Especially in higher resolutions.

We shall see. They will at least be cost effective.
