Wolf359
I was just watching a Youtube vid of student pilots landing on a carrier, flying Goshawks. It would be pretty nice if DCS had a light, trainer aircraft to work on carrier landings. I looked at the L39 and the Aerojet, and neither have a hook. Shmoo42
Wolf, at some point, VNAO is going to release a T-45 mod with an EFM, custom cockpit, etc. It looks pretty freaking awesome, and afaik, its close-ish to ready. Personally, I'm speculating that it will be public within 3 months, but nothing has been released by the mod team.

I have the A-4C but haven't flown it much, and didn't know it had a hook. I will try it out. From what I've seen that mod is amazing; hate to fly off with all that work and not leave so much as a cup of coffee behind. That feels too much like larceny. I generally practice with the F/A-18, but that gets boring. Always nice to have other aircraft to crash into the deck, spewing shredded metal and shattered parts about like shrapnel. Heck, when I do the upwind flyby they all start running for cover... Didn't realize the deck crew AI was that advanced.

SharpeXB
The reasons that trainer aircraft are necessary in the real world; cost safety etc don’t exist in a game. So go ahead and crash your F-18 or F-14 as much as you like and just use those for practice. 2 i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | 24GB GeForce RTX 4090 | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR

The main reason why VNAO decided to make the T-45 Goshawk was because there was no good Naval trainer available that they could recommend to new comers that were interested in getting into DCS Naval flight. Most newbies that started off with the F/A-18 would usually be overwhelmed by its complexity that it would just turn them off. Check this out this interview with VNAO at 30:50min. That’s odd because aside from weapons which a trainer may not have, the Hornet is actually rather simple to operate. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | 24GB GeForce RTX 4090 | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR
reece146
Also, some people just like the trainer aircraft because they like the aircraft.
