Swift. Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Power to the Tacan and Link 16 systems should be tied together, so powering one of them powers the other and vice versa. This is because both systems are part of the MIDS LVT, so you cant power them independently. ED will have to find out from their SMEs whether the UFC menus should show ON/(OFF) to indicate this tied behaviour or whether ON only shows on the menu that was selected when the MIDS LVT was powered on. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Mo410 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Powering the TACAN on does power on the LVT - applies power, but does not enable the system, but you still need to power on the DL and power it off separately. The UFC essentially enables the systems. On the BIT page, power on the TCN should also result in L16 to be on on the BIT page, but not necessarily so on the UFC. Powering off the TCN will leave the DL on and, in reality, drain the battery holding the crypto keys in memory.

Mo410 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I think it would just add another layer of unnecessary ground servicing issues - it would be abnormal to zero-ize the crypto unless compromised or landing in an unsecure location. It is nice to always have Link 16 work, not always the case.
Harker Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 It'd be an interesting gameplay mechanic for MP though. And even that's besides the point, it's how it works IRL. But we're going OT. 1 The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. IRL it is how I described, so it should reflect that, no matter if others think it would be abnormal to touch the switch. jaghammer Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 (edited) Hello, i found an issue when you disable the Datalink, Airborne Contacts doesnt disappear from either SA-Page or Radar Page. Found in Multiplayer, i have no clue if its happen in SP. the trackfile is bigger than 5mb, ive uploaded it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ndaj_0hGXi_JCydWrsHRO60kMdBlgw9q/view?usp=sharing the issue can be found within the first 10mins of the flown mission. Tholozor Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Can't watch the track at work, but did you turn the TACAN off as well? jaghammer Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 No I don't. Why should the tacan affect the Datalink-System?
Tholozor Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Datalink and TACAN are embedded in the same MIDS terminal. REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
jaghammer Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 But I'm pretty sure when I enable only tacan, DL contact's doesn't show up on SA Page.
Tholozor Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Give these a read, should help explain the current situation: 1 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
jaghammer Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Okay, thanks. It looks like a known thing with a workaround, but if I got it right, my English is not the best, it's not working as intended. Will Try it again later and turning off TACAN.
