razorseal Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Alright guys, I must not be doing something procedullery right here. Looking for some help. I have a flight route I created. in the mission editor it's all at 18,000 feet. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do this. it's a fly through waypoint. I put some tanks at WP2.... so when I go WPDSG this to make it a TGT, my TPG slews to this point as it should, but looking at 18,000.... Shouldn't it automatically look at ground when I WPDSG this into a TGT? Do I have to make each wp ground level for this work? Am I not supposed to put fly through altitudes? Thanks...
ex81 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 As far as I understand your problem, you have to give the WP exactly the height above MSL. This is easy done by looking at the F10 map bringing your cursor to the point where the object (WP) is. You find the height in feet on the upper left corner of the map (if I remember right). If you do it right in the ME your TGP will slew to the location on the ground and not up in the sky. What goes up, must come down ! razorseal Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 ok, so I can't have the flight altitude in the waypoint. I need the MSL alt.

CBStu Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I 'think' you can set height to zero and it will figure the actual ground altitude itself. 1

Yeah you can, DCS will automatically correct waypoint altitudes that are lower than the terrain altitude. johnmjones1975 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I've done that too. you can also fix 'in mission' via the waypoint editor in the HSI mode. (assuming you're in an 18) saves you from having to restart when you figure it out mid mission.
razorseal Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 I'll have to see how to do this fix via waypoint editor. I don't usually mess with that stuff. I figured the F18 would know that when I designate a target, I'm designating the ground, not a point in the sky. I guess it doesn't work that way. works now!

CBStu Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Yep, the Mission Editer is a whole other thing to learn. I can only do basic stuff but it has come in handy. I was trying to learn how to use JSOWs and the training mission for them has a ton of enemy SAMs flying at me and they also shoot down the JSOWs. So I created a similar mission but w/ an unarmed enemy that has 4 tanks along a road and each tank is a waypoint. I also put 4 enemy transport planes at one of their air fields figuring I could use them as targets for a lot of different ordnance. Trouble is they take off and do a big loop around the field and then land. Oh well, I made sure to have a few AIM9s on my plane too. Now I can learn much more easily.
