DCS Crashes following Update

sgray

Recommended Posts

Since the last update, I started getting crashes from a mission we have used for sometime now. One thing I noticed in the log was a new message along the lines of file was too big over 10M. So I removed some stuff (mainly sound files) and got the mission down to 7.6M. The size error is gone, but DCS still crashes. I turned on the expanded log writing (autoexec.cfg) as indicated in another thread and have attached the log and hope someone can point me to the issue. I did run a repair already as well. Thanks!dcs.log

Hi,

please remove all unofficial mods from C:\Users\Scott\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods/

then run a full cleanup and repair and test.

Attach your dcs log again if you still get the crash after all unofficial mods are removed.

thank you

Thanks I removed all mods except SRS, LotATC, and Tacview and have attached the new log after repair and crash. FYI - crash occurs on standalone beta and server beta machines.

Your crashlog complains about temp files. When DCS loads up a mission, it puts its files here: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta\".

Try emptying this folder.

Deleted nearly 6000 files from the temp folder and tried the mission again to only get a crash. Thanks for the idea, but not a fix.

OK. Add these folders as exceptions in your antivirus:

  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\
  • E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\

Did that and still get a crash. Turned off Avast and also had the crash. Really strange, because this missions has worked fine for weeks without any issue then after this last update not so much. I guess I should have added that I found an old mission we had and Snowfox and they run just fine.

I’m getting this too.

1f6610ede9b799feb9146a2eaf3ee66a.jpg

I was trying to create fast mission Caucasus. Runway start with Hornet.

Update: it seems that my issue is related to Create Fast Mission. I am able to start some instant action missions.

Update 2: also missions I create manually in the editor are working. So my issue seems to be a Fast Mission problem.

@Eagle7907Can you please attach the resulting dcs.log in this thread? I'm trying to understand why some people can't use the fast mission creator.

@sgrayIs Snowfox able to reproduce the crash with the same mission? Can you attach it? I have both beta and stable, I'd like to know if I can reproduce the crash one both versions.

Snowfox works fine with no crashes. The Caucasus mission we have been using for several weeks started crashing after the update. Snowfox is in the PG map, so maybe there is some issue with the Caucasus map since @Eagle7907 is having issues on that map.

In my case it doesn't crash; it just stays stuck on the loading screen forever.

If I play the Free flight mission, it works on both Caucasus and PG.

If I start the mission from the Mission menu or directly from the mission editor, the same mission which worked in the previous  2.5.6.60645 version is stuck loading.

It's true that my rig is very limited, but the same mission has been working many times in the past. Actually this night I changed it a little, but I doubt that that is the problem.

I've also tried another one named something like "AGM65 qualfication" and it didn't load.

Hi All,

I fly with SGray online.

I have been working with sgray on the problem and found a solution.

The offending items were 3 x AI F18A models. I replaced them with C models and no further crashes.

Our mission was on the caucasus Map. PG and NTTR are fine

@cmfrostyNice finding! 100% reproducible from my end. Whenever I add an F/A-18A unit to a mission, the game crashes:

  • AI unit : crashes during mission loading,
  • Client/Player unit : crashes when selecting F/A-18A slot (I know, we're not supposed to be able fly the thing).

@Eagle7907Please attach the mission that makes your game crash.

@BlackLightningDoes your mission contain F/A-18A units? If so, you have to replace them until a fix is found.

So I think the take away here is that something did change in the last update causing the crash, as we have been using those aircraft for the past month at least without issue.

No, it doesn't, however it seems that I've found out what caused the problem: if I wait until the mission has completely loaded and I see the cockpit and only afterwards I turn on the head tracking of opentrack, then it will work. I didn't have this problem in previous versions, but if it's just a matter of timing some actions differently, no big deal.

Thank you for the help anyway and also thanks to cmfrosty, too, for letting us knowing about the issue with the AI F18A.

Also: I just was able to successful create and start a ramp start in Syria. So maybe it is the Caucasus map and fast missions a conflict.

Seems to have caused a crash when an AI Striker fire a weapon. Deleted the three vehicles and trying again. Sure wish ED would just say what was changed that would cause these AI crashes.

Seemed to work for awhile, then crash. See in the log on line 3527 a R-27ER was fired and immediately after got a crash. Seems to be a big rabbit hole trying to find the cause of AI and now weapons causing crashes.

Well deleted nearly all AI vehicles and the mission ran for awhile and then crashed. @BIGNEWY@Flappie got any ideas what is going on behind the scenes? I am having to gut my mission that has been fully functional for months. Have you heard if any Nvidia drivers are causing issues? I did roll back one version just to see if that helped, but it didn't.

Missions with F/A-18A's will crash it has been reported, hopefully a fix in the next patch.

If you are getting the crash without 18A's please let me know.

Attach a fresh log and we will take a closer look.

thank you

@BIGNEWYI swapped out the 18A and that got me to the mission running. Unfortunately, then started getting errors with vehicles (see logs above). So I removed the majority of vehicles and it ran for about 3 1/2 hours then crashed again. I am running it now after removing the last object that crashed it, so if it crashes I will post another log. Just to point out again, the crash happens on my standalone computer running as Mission, and on the dedicated server.
