th3flyboy Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Would it be possible for ED to add to DCS later down the line something such as an F-14, F-111, A-6, AH-1, UH-60, or a B-52 add on? I think these aircraft would be possible to model pretty accurately and they usually are not focused on by the simulation developers, so this could actually open a new part of the community. I would really love to fly these aircraft and I think that further on down the line if DCS really takes off then it may be feasable to try some of the less focused on parts of military aviation. In my honest opinion, it would be kind of cool to be able to fly a F-14 and launch a phoenix missile, or to fly a f-111 on a low level attack run, or to even fly a UH-60 and pick up a specops team behind enemy lines. These are areas of simulation that usualy aren't shown and would be very interesting to see. Current Sims: DCS Black Shark, Falcon 4.0, X-Plane 9, Steel Beasts Pro PE, IL-2 1946, ArmA 2, FSX, Rise of Flight, EECH, Harpoon 3 ANW, CSP
snowbird2 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Ahh yeah.... http://www.virtualnavairops.com/index.html
Avimimus Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I hope this information helps: 1) ED basically needs to know how to build the aircraft, and use it in combat, in order to meet their standards (thus it has to be almost totally declassified) 2) ED needs to meet a certain standard as they are trying to use their civilian line as demonstrators in order to bid on contracts for military trainers (so they can't lose one iota of quality) 3) ED doesn't rule out modelling anything further down the line - but it does cost a lot of time and money so it will be years before many aircraft that are already in progress see the light of day. 4) Yes it would be very cool. I especially agree with the idea of modelling roles which aren't usually modelled (strike aircraft, transport helos etc.) P.S. I am not affiliated with ED and this information isn't official
nemises Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I feel tha a UH60 or similar is something that the community could probably produce given time and the new tool set. Since there are no real Weapon systems or defensive systems or radar systems to model / have declassified info on, it would really come down to the flight model and the internal systems. I think an excellent and very functional facsimile of a UH60 could be done without ED. ..just for example, not implying anyone needs to do it or anything.
chaos Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 (edited) Nemises, I think you're not far off. The question is how much of the 'groundwork' has been done to accomodate the 'fast jets' that are in the pipeline. IOW is there 'fancy systems-'code in Black Shark today that one can hook into and use in a newly developed flyable (i.e. defensive sys./radar etc.)? I'm not even sure if the 'fast jets' will be using the current engine. I remember those were to be developed with the next engine in mind... Hmmm.... DCS:Boeing777 might be feasible Edited July 14, 2008 by chaos "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."
Buren Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 ... Hmmm.... DCS:Boeing777 might be feasible There's MFS for that one. :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ThunderChief Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I am no expert on this but I think modelling even an aircraft without complex avionics to the standards of DCS is not to easy. Just think about what you would have to model for a UH60: -conventional rotor (not coaxial) -flightmodel including things like vortex ring states, icing etc. -damage model -ground ops -communication -operational procedures for wingman (?) -cargo handling It would be interresting to get an offical statement from DCS what level of realism would be required as future DCS version might be even more realistic than DCS:BS.
chaos Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 (edited) Aaaaw Buren... don't even mention MFS. Their FM is so porked, I couldn't land their B777 even if my life depended on it... and I fly 777's for real... :) Edited July 14, 2008 by chaos "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."
Canada Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Aaaaw Buren... don't even mention MFS. Their FM is so porked, I couldn't land their B777 even if my life depended on it... and I fly 777's for real... :) Wow, that says a lot. I don't play MSFS since I've discovered the existence of Xplane, though. Although I kind of prefer Live for Speed. Helicopters fly.

JaNk0 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 haha I hope not since many lives are depending on you :P 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

DaWu Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I am dreaming of a naval f14 sim since fleet defender ten years ago.
