That's news to me, but it's par for the course and what I was expecting. I was expecting end of March, or maybe the first couple of weeks into April. If you've been with DCS long, you'll hopefully becoming accustomed to taking a release date, adding 2 weeks to a month (at least) and actually expect it then, you can then be presently surprised if its earlier and hopefully you won't be too disappointed if it's later. It sounds bad, but that's unfortunately how things are and there is no magic solution given how unpredictable it all is. I think ED have learned their lesson from the 2.5.6 situation which was not fun, and it was very long lasting. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Doc3908 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 So, is DCS 2.7 supposed to come out as open-beta, stable, or both? (Sorry it this has been asked - I did search around but couldn't find an answer.)

It comes first out as open-beta. Once it runs stable and after bugs fixing it will be released in stable as well

To be honest, since switching to the longer update schedule, OB builds have been pretty stable and stable only seems to get updated after months of successive OB updates - you're waiting longer to get the same thing. Right now it would be a perfect time to switch to OB as they're currently on the same version number, so your download size will be minimised if you use the command prompt. I'll detail the procedure below: Spoiler Open up the command prompt, searching for cmd in the windows 10 search bar will find it for you. type "CD\" (excluding the speech marks) and then press enter. then type "CD\" again, followed by the path to DCS_updater.exe, which is inside the bin folder inside your main DCS installation folder. So for me I would type in "CD\" press enter and then I'd type in "CD\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin" and then hit enter. Then type "DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta" At the moment I'm not sure what happens, because both version numbers are identical, they're effectively the same build, so the updater will say it's up to date. When the 2 versions differ it should update and switch you over to the OB branch, without having to uninstall your current stable and download the OB from scratch. If the above doesn't work, try putting a space and then the full version number after @openbeta, the current version numbers for both branches can be found here. See here for more details. Doc3908 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 The reason I'm running stable (and an earlier version at that) is because of the horrible flashing in WWII warbird missions that appeared when the new damage model was introduced a few versions back. I had to revert to a stable version before the new damage model because warbirds were unusable otherwise. They said they are close to a fix, which will probably be introduced in 2.7 - one more reason to swtich 2.7OB when it comes out.

DocHawkeye Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 I wonder if they're going to co-release Mosquito along with 2.7 as sort of the "killer app" for the 2.7 patch... 1

Either way, 2.7 is right around the corner, so I hope they would have figured it out by release time.

From my observations yes, when a mission forces civilian traffic on i would notice those weird orange and crazy graphical effects in VR. Once i turn off civilian traffic wouldn't notice it. I'm wondering more about the "everfog" haze we're experiencing especially in low res HMDs since the Channel release that forces us to use the Mustang Shader mod (Praise Sunbutt that thing does exist, I would have dropped DCS completely if it wasn't for its existence). I was speaking in general in computer software, historically a major version bump indicates a lot of changes all-around, it doesn't have to be so in this case as hardcore as it used to be. I'm a bit grumpy when it comes to fast versioning and I rant about it everytime I get the chance. BTW: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Chrome-4-Week-Releases If you guys check out comments/responses in the linux/FOSS communities, you'd see a lot of people mocking the ridicolous Chrome/Firefox versioning gimmicks so I'm not alone by far. I feel you so much. Just updated my Nightly on another rig that I haven't been using for about a year, year and a half since we're not allowed to meet our friends anymore and I was mainly using that rig when I had them visiting me. That thing made a version jump by something like 24 Majors. Totally ridiculous. The really sad thing about that is that Mozilla copied the BS Google started with Chrome. They should never have jumped on that bandwagon in the first place. Version 57 would have justified a Major increase, but that's the last big change that happened. As for the newsletter, I'm looking forward to the Mossie and those raytraced reflections. I wonder if those depend on head position then...

Tried a P-51 instant action mission in the Caucuses and the flashes are still there. Next I'll remove civilian traffic altogether and try again. Either way, I hope 2.7OB addresses this really annoying issue...
