tn_prvteye Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 As title says. When I open DCS.exe it loads the program like the headset isn't on. It says the headset is enabled on the VR settings page. My process that worked before: Plug in G2...Mixed Reality Portal starts up. I then start SteamVR (without Steam running). Then start DCS.exe from a shortcut on my desktop. Worked fine...no need run Steam, or use the controllers. Latest SteamVR did somethin' ver. 1.16.8
tn_prvteye Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 Update. Nothing works in VR...not just DCS. So disregard.
dburne Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 I use Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR Beta. I also use Steam VR Beta. When I turn on the headset, the regular Windows Mixed Reality launches. I immediately close it. Then when I am ready to fly, I launch Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR Beta. It will then launch Steam and Steam VR with WMR for Steam VR. I then put headset on my head and launch DCS. Works for me every time without any glitches. When I am finished I shut down Steam VR then shut down WMR for Steam VR. tn_prvteye Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 How do you launch WMR for Steam without opening Steam First? And how do you launch DCS while you're in the Headset? I've got he non-Steam DCS version. Do you use the controllers to open up your desktop view or something?
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted February 25, 2021 ED Team Posted February 25, 2021 For wmr reality to work you need two things, even if you are on stand alone dcs. 1. SteamVR 2. windows mixed reality for steam both apps can be found in the steam store and are free. Once you have that installed here is what you do. Start your headset up. start steamVR in steam the start DCS in VR mode. you should be good then. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? My procedure: I would note I have WMR for Steam VR Beta and Steam VR Beta. 1: Turn headset power on ( I use a powered USB 3 Hub with individual on/off switch). Standard Windows Mixed Reality opens - I immediately close that. I do not want the standard Mixed Reality Portal. 2: I launch Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR from my desktop shortcut for it. This launches Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR, Steam, and Steam VR. At this point I am ready to put headset on and launch DCS. 3: Set headset on top of my head but not lowered yet. I launch DCS from the desktop shortcut. After DCS loads, I lower headset in position over my eyes. That is it. I never really see the WMR house, nor Steam VR environment. When I lower headset in position I am in the DCS main menu. When I am finished and exit DCS : I close Steam VR from the tab in my notification area. I close Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR. I find this method at least for me to be the cleanest and most trouble free. If I do it any different, oftentimes I will still have some Steam VR processes running in the background even though desktop does not reflect this. This is how I do it each time throughout the day and never have any issue at all with any of it. I probably average around 3-4 hours of flying each day. Once as above I have headset powered on, I leave it on for the day if I am still going to be using it. I close down Steam VR Beta and WMR for Steam VR Beta between each flying session and just launch WMR for Steam VR Beta again when ready for the next session. tn_prvteye Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 That's pretty much what I do...except I have a shortcut to SteamVR. I plug in the G2, close the portal, then click SteamVR. When I click that it opens up WMR and SteamVR...Steam doesn't open. I could then open DCS from my desktop. Although no combination works for me anymore...and no games at all work in VR...either Steam or otherwise now. As much as I love the G2, I'm really missing the ease of my old Rift. 20 minutes ago, BIGNEWY said: For wmr reality to work you need two things, even if you are on stand alone dcs. 1. It was working fine before the new SteamVR update drop yesterday. It's not a DCS thing.

tn_prvteye Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 Tried it. A complete re-install of SteamVR as well. I appreciate the help, but it looks like the latest SteamVR update gave me a "unicorn" issue. No one else seems to have it. I've done so much tweaking and rigging with my PC to squeeze every last Frame, I probably disabled something years ago that I've forgotten about. REALLY not wanting to do a system wipe and OS reinstall, but it look like I may have to.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted March 2, 2021 ED Team Posted March 2, 2021 Try renaming your dcs folder in saved games, ( keep it as a backup ) restart dcs, tick VR enable and retry to test. If it helps great, if not you can return to the backup. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Rocky49 Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 (edited) I have had to amend my procedure since recent updates by SteamVR. Instead of just starting the SteamVR app which also starts the WMR app, then clicking on my DCS App on my desktop. If I do it that way now I will have issues with the Headset screens shutting down in DCS and switching to the Clifftop house, with an error message about a failure in the SteamVR application. Instead, I now start via SteamVR, which also opens the Windows portal, I put on the headset and the SteamVR screen shows recently used application. I select the DCS app and open using hand controller. DCS loads and I have no further problems with the SteamVR issue. Reverb G2 Try two things, First WIN+Y to disable the overlay in Reverg 2 (the blue line in the top of the monitor indicates if is ON/OFF(no blue line) ), then move your mouse and see if you can view the mouse cursor, if so, click on the dcs window and you must see the cursor Also turn off the Reverb controllers, The search in the VR options menu to click use mouse. Komet_82 Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Hi all I struggled yesterday evening pretty bad on this, but did not had the Idea to check the forum, so dumb haha. Anyway, I was not able to start DCS into VR mode, when I read this I need SteamVR and Mixed Reality for Steam. Ok, will try that, but just one question, I have a standalone DCS and am not a big fan of Steam, why does it need that as a standallone? Many thanks for your support Cheers
