Hi all,

One of those post requiring help in determining a new hardware setup.

For some years now I've been running on a MSFS 2, Saitek X52 throttle and Saitek pedals.

Now the Saitek throttle just died after 15 years of good service. For some reason the PC does not initialize the unit.

I am just wondering what you guys recommend for a good throttle and what should I get for a good joystick?

I noticed that there are a few more brands lately but I am an old guy and don't follow much of that lately, can you guys help me please?

Kind regards,

Virpil CM3 Throttle is very nice. Might be a bit of a wait to get one, but worth it.

As far as stick, both Virpil and VKB have some good offerings.

I use VKB Gunfighter Pro with extension center mounted to my desk with a Monster Tech Mount, and the VKB Ultimate metal grip with it.

Love this combination.

With VKB also might be in for a bit of a wait.

Both Virpil and VKB make excellent sticks, with metal gimbals in both. Will last a very long time.

I had a saitek x52 Pro and Saitek Pro Flight Rudders and replaced them with the WartHog Throttle and Stick and TPR Rudders.

Very happy with the set up.

I moved from CH fighter stick/Pro Throttle combo to a TM Warthog HOTAS.  It's pretty good, but at this point I have a TM F-18 stick on a Virpil WardBRD base and it's a whole lot better.  I would definitely go that way if I had to replace my setup (note that when I bought my Warthog, it came as a grip + base set and the F18 grip didn't exist).  I find the throttle fine for my purposes.  What planes do you fly as that definitely could influence what you want?  I mainly fly the F18 with a little bit of A10 and WW2 planes, so my 20+ year old CH pedals still do the job since really they only get used for steering on the ground.  If you're heavy on the WW2 planes then better pedals would be nice.  I also don't mind less buttons since I have two programmable button boxes (120 buttons each) that I can change out labels on for different aircraft, so I don't feel the need for extra HOTAS buttons (which would make an argument for a Virpil or other grip).  Unfortunately, right now it may come down to what you can actually find to purchase at a price less than giving up your first born and you're likely going to have to wait a while for delivery at that.

So basically there are the Thrustmaster and Virpil?

I’ve research a bit and it looks like that Virpil can attach some joysticks.

What is the advantages or Virpil over Thrustmaster?

And is Virpil easy to maintain and repair?

They are quite expensive.

Thank you for your help.

I can't talk about virpil, but I replaced my TM Warthog stick with a VKB and being happy now. Did a lot of moding on the TM but never achieved the results I get with the VKB Base. Currently I fly the F-14 almost exclusively and the VKB F-14 Grip is very nice. Got a couple of other grips but only change if I plan to fly other planes for a longer period. There are also sets for fitting TM grips, but that is not as easy as with the virpil base I believe.

@Monkwolf @dburnehow do you feel about offset angles? Is 15°enough? I plan to get myself MCGU with 200 mm extension, so offseting extension is not really an option.

Whilst I can not state exactly it appears like I have mine twisted around 10- 15 degrees or so.

Seems comfy and works for me. I use 200mm extension.

i think it's enough, but i'm not really uising it. Not sure about the U, but the MCG Pro I have has two spots for a pin to set it at 0 or 15. I have mine mounted on the 0 pin. Then the 200mm extension has an arc the pin can sit in that looks like 0 - 15ish. Seems like you could do the 15 pin on the grip and rotate the extension to get more than 15 if you wanted, but the extension would be rotated a bit with the curve.

Thanks. The reason I don't want to twist the extension is because it would change grip position due to offset.
