I'm guessing that there's a little more to it than that, right? :)

I suppose if you could show them a viable reason why you'd be able to help them with testing (previous experience bug-testing play-testing for a gaming company for example) then they might CONSIDER you...But I would still say it was a long shot. They've already got enough testers methinks...

I want to tell the truth: I don't have any Betatesting experiences I'm only interested in the Apache for about two years know and know much about its avionics

I don't think you will see much apache material for a while. A-10's next in line, so I expect you'll be seeing some of that.

Good luck mate, been trying to beta test games for years. The only ones i've done is World in Conflict closed beata and front lines and thats by pure chance. But RTS games arn't my scene nor are BF clones.

If you have experiance in the fields that would help with the game then you have a good chance of getting in the party.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Unless there is something new I'm not aware of, keep in mind that with ED a "beta tester" is quite a bit different than what you may be used to. I won't hide the fact that I wish they would think up some some new title for ED testers because I think the term is misleading.

To be a tester you generally have to contribute something meaningful to their efforts. For example a SME, or a 3D artist, or maybe an acutal military pilot. Contrast this to what being a "beta tester" means on every other software project I've heard of or been involved with; a bug reporter.

I've beta tested computer games and my mother has acutally beta tested accounting software, believe it or not. In these cases our main effort went into bug reporting. "Do X, Y happens and it shouldn't" or "I get a CTD when I try to do X" type of stuff. My mother may have actually contributed more since she's an accountant using accounting software, like maybe an ease of use issue, but mostly it was just bugs. In the end it was making sure that a nearly complete or fully complete piece of software ran smoothly as intended.

We do beta testing just as you describe, RT.

However program BUGS aside, it is valuable to have some sort of aviation knowledge in order to spot legitimate (ie. non-buggy) behaviour in the sim. For example, we all know LO missiles suck - but who's to say if that's okay or not? We hear from real pilots 'hah, yeah, the AMRAAM is undermodeled' ... what does that mean? The explanations have to come from those with (unclassified) knowledge and sources.

Another example - testing such a complex instrument as ABRIS, you need to know what the functions you're testing are all about. What good is a beta tester if he doesn't understand the purpose of each needle/mark in the ABRIS and how it should be calculated - the source of the information (INS? DNS? GPS?), and so on and so forth.

So there's some knowledge or ability to understand this stuff that is required to test a sim with this much avionics detail.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir on the need for know-how and know-what! I was going to edit my post to "because I think the term is misleading to new people on these forums" to clarify what I meant. I got sidetracked before I could.

Prepare yourself for a generalization! Most people who want to beta test want to do so because they just want to play the game early. I have nothing to back that up, but thats what I really think. People want to beta test because to them, playing a game earlier than others get to is a perk. Most are not prepared to actually do any "testing". For your average FPS, RTS, or RPG this is probably ok because just playing it is probably all you have to do. I agree that flight sims are more complex and need more than just playing.

I'm probably wrong. Even if the title was changed to "ED Technical Expert" you'd probably still have people asking how they can beta test (see previous paragraph!). :)

Yea its not all fun and games. You would have to spot a bug, know how to report it properly, provide tracks or screenshots. Find out how to reproduce it so the devs could find a way to fix it...etc. And above all, read the manual for the 100th time. But exactly what RedTiger said, most people want to beta test so they can get their hands on it earlier, but trust me that should not be the main reason because you will have to deal with an unfinished product (ie buggy). I do it because I really want to help out.
