constant stutters with G2 and DCS

Hey everyone. Im a bit at the end of a road here. Not sure what else to try.

I get constant stutters with the G2 only in DCS. Other games run butter smooth. Even when turning down all settings inside DCS to low and SteamVR SS to 20% I get the same stutter. Its the strongest when rolling the plane or looking out to the sides of the cockpit.

I had Thud from vr4dcs.com tweak my windows, nvidia and DCS setting with no luck. Motion smoothing/ reprojection on off makes no difference.

I have 5950x no overclock, 32 gigs of Gskill trident ram, a RTX 3070 all on a ASUS croshair 8 dark hero. I had issues with G2 and the x570 chipset but could fix that with switching from pci gen4 to gen3. Also installed an internal usb pci extension card to circumvent the usb power dropout issues with x570.

Running the latest nvida, chipset and motherboard drivers.

I also get very high cpu times in fpsVR of about 24 ms.

Has anyone any Idea if I am missing something. Help would be much appreciated. I build this pc to run DCS vr with the G2 and I had nothing but problems so far.

Thank you!

Yes I did, as I mentioned I’m using an pci express usb extension card to fix the amd usb issues.

Hi neok,

This is a strange issue. Since your CPU frametimes seem to be very high, it might be that your 5950X is not performing well for DCS. Did you check the CPU temperature when playing to make sure it is within acceptable limits? Acceptable means 80°C or less to avoid any throttling.

I could also recommend that you try to disable SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading) in your UEFI. This feature is extremely useful for heavy programs like encoding, editing etc. but mostly useless for gaming. Especially when considering that CPU frametimes in DCS are limited by single-core performance ; as you have 12 cores, you do not need to have SMT on and 24 virtual cores.

For reference, I run a 5600X and get around 10-11ms CPU frametimes (jumps a bit in MP but not by much). You should be getting around the same since both CPUs have the same cores (yours just has more, which is useless in DCS given the engine limitations right now).

Works smoothly until I restart the computer, then G2 stutters really bad I have to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers to get the game to work again.

When DCS Launches into UI all is smooth, its when I start a instant mission, Normandy\P51 dogfight, the game starts and is a stutter fest, leave the missions, and back into UI no stutters.

Thanks for the reply @Qiou87.

I tried all this already with no luck.

@71st_Mastiff Not exactly sure what you are describing there. Where exactly is the error happening? I reinstallend nvidia Drivers with no changes to performance visible.

For me as soon as im flying in a mission my cpu frametimes go up and I have constant stutter. when I hit escape my cpu frametimes go to 7ms.

Ive been having a nightmare on the recent Drivers, the only fix i can find, to run the game stable, is to roll back to before 4.60- The best driver ive found for me was 457.51.
Then when the new driver comes, it starts stuttering again.
Then i have to clean install the old driver again.
However, while i use the old driver- I cant use the F10 menu, or else i get kicked off the game.

Its either that, or i play with the latest drivers, and suffer black screens every 15 minutes on the new maps, and constant stuttering.

Hope it helps.

interesting, I tried some older drivers as well with no luck. Wil try the versions you mentioned. Can you explain the stutters you are getting? Are they constant, with any visual setting applied. As  in no difference between high or low settings. Do you see it when rolling and looking out the side?

if you have not already check out this thread, its helped others

Some have seen improvement when disabling HPET

disabling hyperthreading has helped others also but results vary

Yeah I tried all the usual suspects With no visible change. Im betting on nvidia driver in conjunction with dcs and G2, since this is ONLY happening in DCS.

Since this thread stopped without telling if you fixed it. Did you? If so, what did you do?

I obtained a new 3070ti from EVGA and my frame rates were very high and the stuttering was unbearable.  I disabled FPSVR and the problem went away.  I had no problems with my old 1070ti.  Anyone know what setting in FPSVR is the culprit?
