Maybe a bug, maybe I'm doing something wrong...

  1. Turn on main power
  2. Request ground crew to turn on Ground Power
  3. Setup jet, align, stores, etc etc  (Leave FCR switch OFF)
  4. Start engine routine
  5. Request ground crew to turn off Ground Power
  6. Turn on FCR
  7. Nav mode, FCR working propertly
  8. Switch to MRM mode.. FCR stuck as "off" in MFD
  9. Switch to Dogfight mode.. FCR is working properly
  10. Switch back to MRM mode.. FCR still stuck "off"
  11. Double click osb on FCR and replace it with something else.. WPN, TGP, etc mode
  12. Double click osb again and select FCR
  13. FCR is now working properly

This only happens when I use ground power...  normal startup from engine, no issues...

Saw this the other day. I thought I must have screwed somwtging up.  Thanks for writing the post.

I have a few years experience with the Viper and I never saw a pilot set up the jet on ground power only. Normally we would just startup the jet, set everything up and shut it down again. Although what you are doing should work it is not very realistic (at least in our Airforce).

Was going to raise separately but seems like it could be related. If I turn on FCR in NAV mode on startup (I don't use ground power), it is not enabled for A/A mode, and vice versa.

  1. Start up jet, leaving FCR off (remaining in nav mode)
  2. Turn on FCR
  3. Nav mode has FCR on
  4. Switch to A/A mode, FCR is off
  5. Turning FCR on and off again fixes this

Likewise...

  1. Start up jet, leaving FCR off (switch to A/A)
  2. Turn on FCR
  3. A/A mode has FCR on
  4. Switch to nav mode, FCR is off
  5. Turning FCR on and off again fixes this

I see what's happening.

If radar was off while a mode was selected then when returning to this mode (even if FCR is turned on again when mode was not selected) the mode will display as off even if FCR switch on.

The reason this doesn't happen every time is that sometimes changing master mode changes the FCR configuration (e.g. CRM to ACM). This reconfiguration forces the FCR to check if it's on or off and so it shows on.

Demonstration:

Turn the FCR off and then go through all five modes (AG, AA, MO, DGFT) and then back to NAV.

Turn the FCR on.

Right now all of the other 4 modes still think the radar is off.

Configure the radar into ACM in NAV and then switch DGFT

Notice DGFT shows radar off.

Return to NAV.

Leave NAV configured CRM and then switch DGFT

DGFT shows radar on because the NAV->DGFT change caused a CRM->ACM change which forced a check if radar switch was on.

Repeat with NAV->MO with CRM in NAV and again with ACM in NAV.
